Your garden is look absolutely gorgeous!
When top feed, do you use only water or you add nutrients if the ppm has dropped?
Also, how far are you from harvest? I'm wondering just to have an idea if I'm keeping the ppm at a good number :)
Thanks for you Shady!

That is a serious root ball shady. Keep up the good work.
Thx again, and again my friend! Hmmm, I wonder which would be better to run in the UC... The White or Original Diesel... :wondering

these ladies are lookin right bro! u rockin that uc :)
Right on my dude! :rock

Shady your shit is looking great man, can I ask a question about your screen or netting without insult? It does not look like it did shit.. is it just for bud support or you putting up another one too cause there is no bobbing and weaving there.. just grew straight up through it usually a scrog your buds start swelling just above your trellis. I love your fucking grow bro.. great strains too! Keep at it.. Looks like it was just for bud weight support.. Right on!!! Reps.
Thx for the compliments and not to worry... I'm not insulted by your post. My plants were tall and extremely root bound when I first put them into the UC and the 5" net pots. After a couple of weeks veggin' they got taller and top heavy... One day I came in and one of the MxB was literally laying on it's side, it was one that I planted very high in the net pot... The rapid rooter wasn't even covered by hydroton. Then a few days later another MxB that was planted deep in the net pot fell over. Depth of planting doesn't matter and there is no structural stability since the net pot and hydroton doesn't really provide support. So I had to use the white yo yos with orange hooks to hold each plant upright...

After reading every UC thread on the Farm over the last year I noticed one common theme for scrogs under a horizontal light... The first net used during veg becomes obsolete once the girls stretch from the flip. Then a second net is usually needed to hold up colas late in bloom. The use of both nets is necessary in a true scrog, but since my plants were diff sizes and strains, I decided to veg them until their root mass was established and consequently have enough upper canopy to fill in the screen. After I flipped I had to eventually install the screen and once I removed the yo yos, the plants started to fall over again... It was not an easy task to install the screen at this stage, quite honestly it should have been done sooner. Luckily I had managed to carefully install the screen, spread out the tops, and essentially end up with a shady scrog.

If you closely compare the before and after photos of the screen installation, you will see that it helped. The screen is the only thing keeping the plants from falling out of the buckets at this time. I also constructed the PVC to allow for a second screen above the first and may install it late in bloom if the colas fall over each other. Hope this all makes sense...

And to answer your other questions... I don't have supplemental CO2 in my garden, nor do I have a dedicated AC other than my house's central AC which only turns on when the garden hits 85 deg. The 1/10 HP JBJ Arctica Chiller is what is keeping my girls happy... That and me rapping and singing to them on the down low... :music

Thx bud! I only top fed through the net pots for the first week or so of veg... Since then I have always premixed 4 gal of nutrients in a 5 gal bucket and poured it all into the Epicenter. I never add nutrients, acid, or base directly to the Epicenter... Also I flipped these girls on 2/12/11, so tomorrow is Day 35 or the start of Week 6. I've consistently harvested my MxB between 70 to 80 days in hydroton ebb 'n flow, coco DTW, soil handwatered, soil plus coco handwatered. Based on comparison of those previous rounds, I expect to harvest by Day 80... Not sure about the White Urkle or White Master as these are the original seedlings I popped. It will be interesting to see when GoD harvests them in Coco DTW though... That will give me a good baseline for comparison... :thinking

root porn niiice now it's a party
Whaddup bro! Glad you made it to the party... Here's some bud porn to round things out until the next update... :cool

I notice you have covered your net pots with panda, is that to stop the light? No issues doing this? Looking good...

Thx aleYarok! I know my setup isn't as fancy or pimped out yet, but I try to drop a bit of knowledge and eye candy to keep things fun to watch... :character0113:

looks like a great thread everyone.. glad to be here
Thx grinkeeper! Plenty of room for everyone at this party... :party0023:

Yessir... Light can easily penetrate the net pot's top lip hydroton early on when there is no upper canopy to keep things shady... ;)

That guava 13 looks amazing brah, killin it all around
Thx JointOps! Just saw your update and the Dank Desk is a well oiled machine... I don't think I'd ever leave work if I had a job and that desk of yours... :anim_44:

In the Cuts… With a little bit of everything

Still working on getting my timing down with everything growing at diff stages... Here’s a few updates to keep things interesting and informative:

Round 10… The Final Flush Continues
Snapped a couple more bud shots last night and flushed all 4 plants with FloraKleen today and pH’d the RO mix at 5.7 and 6.2, for hydro and soil, respectively…

Round 12… Burning and Still Learning
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again… I’m still a rookie, and sometimes I’ve got to get burned to learn my lesson. The good news is that the Fire cut and most of the girls are doing well after a week of feeding with an extremely high pH… My Hanna 98129’s pH probe finally failed as mentioned previously and the first indication was very strange new growth on the plants damaged previously by the Green Cure burn. Here’s my assessment of the chain of events…

It appeared as though there was damage from extreme pH fluctuation and excessive availability of Nitrogen at a pH well over 6.5… First sign was the dreaded claw from Nitrification. Here’s a link to a couple pH charts from Texas Kid:

Since I feed with PBP Grow and Mad Farmer’s NUTS during the first transition week of bloom, and start to feed with PBP Bloom by the 2nd week of bloom, I believe the humic acid and additional grow nutes made excessive Nitrogen available. Consequently, it also appeared that Potassium was locked out causing deformed new growth, yellowing of the clawing leaves, and delayed onset of flowering. Here’s a link to Mulder’s Chart of nutrient interaction that I’ve posted a few times in my journals:
http://forums.cannabisculture.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=1610043

Last, but not least I’ll reference the Revised: Complete Guide to Sick Plants, pH and Pest Troubles as there are many variables and other potential deficiencies:

Yesterday I trimmed the entire lower canopy to start Day 14 of bloom…
http://i769.invalid.com/albums/xx335/Shady-Sativa/Round120.jpg

I also rearranged the plants and moved both of the Fire cuts to the lower tray since they’re stretching big time…
http://i769.invalid.com/albums/xx335/Shady-Sativa/Round121.jpg

This is the revised and thinned out upper canopy… The damaged plants are on the left side and unfortunately include the White Urkle and Alien Kush F2…

Here’s a shot of Guava 13 ready to blow up…

Shady Veg Station… Seedlings and Supercropping Techniques

The new seedlings are doing well except for one Chem’s Sis/D that never rooted fully and will be culled… I have not done a res change yet, but did water the babies with a bit of CalMag; the excess drained into and ultimately topped off the ressy below…
http://i769.invalid.com/albums/xx335/Shady-Sativa/Seedlings.jpg

So, I thought I’d do a supercropping comparison between my Fire cut mother, and my recently acquired Tahoe OG mother from GoD… Thx again my friend! The Tahoe OG is on the left and the Fire OG is on the right…

Fire OG in Happy Frog, B’cuzz Coco, and Chunky Perlite #4… Supercropped by me twisting and breaking the inner hurd of the shoots…
http://i769.invalid.com/albums/xx335/Shady-Sativa/FireOG.jpg

Tahoe OG in B’cuzz Coco and Chunky Perlite #4… Supercropped by GoD pinching the shoots and breaking the inner hurd…
http://i769.invalid.com/albums/xx335/Shady-Sativa/TahoeOG.jpg

Here’s a quick shot of the Tahoe OG touched by GoD… Look closely and you can see two areas slightly bulging on the same shoot…
http://i769.invalid.com/albums/xx335/Shady-Sativa/TahoeTouchedbyGoD.jpg

The next set of photos are of my Fire cut… I’ll start with the base shoot that has been supercropped twice. As the shoot begins to bulge, it has split the outer hurd on the right side…
http://i769.invalid.com/albums/xx335/Shady-Sativa/FireShadySupercropping0.jpg

And sometimes I twist a bit too much and accidently leave a shoot hanging by a thread… Luckily, I always have some blue painters tape on hand to bandage the wound…
http://i769.invalid.com/albums/xx335/Shady-Sativa/FireShadySupercropping1.jpg

She’s healed up after a couple weeks and the tape can now be removed…. The next three shots show all sides of the resultant scar…

Nice update Shady!
I dig the super cropping. Blue tape, I thought I was the only one using that for splints. Good shit man. Lucky you with the gift from GoD. That is definitely a nice addition to your stable. You deserve it man. Keep up the great worrk.

Sucks about the pH meter, but I think I can speak for a lot of people (who slack, like me) who thank you for reminding us to calibrate our pens.

Shit still looks great, keep it up homeboy :)
