Seeds are:
Critical fast bud autoflower.
I read that it's good to run your lights for 24hrs for the first week to help the seedlings create more roots faster.
Is this recommended or will it add stress to the plant as it would have no down time I'm currently 5 days in soil.
I'm running 18 on 6 off I was going to run this time through out the whole process.
I also read that dimming the lights to 50% for 6hrs is good for seedlings.

Sounds like your making it more complicated then it needs to be. Personally I think their cycardian rhythm might not like what you're doing they like consistency and sleep.
I'll be keeping my lights at 18 on 6 off unless there is some experienced guys that put there lights at 24 hrs for the first week and have good results..

But as long as ur not growing many plants it’s probably not that much, I could only imagine my setup when u said that which is more then one light and 8 extra hours a day would add up to over time. My setup is 3 lights so I could imagine like an extra $25-$45 a month on top of my already $250 electricity bill lmao. To each his own .

Running 24 hour veg is pushing the plants. Its a grower style thing.

There are obviously 2 camps. One is essentially "grow more weed faster" and the other is "sacrifice yearly poundage produced for higher quality."

All things being equal, 24 hours gives a faster growth rate.

On the other side plants actually do stuff at night. Important processes. I have proven to myself via testing that how the plant is vegged has an impact on cannabinoid profile in the finished plant. In general terms, the ones you baby are more complex.

You decide.

The photoperiod plants grow in 18/6 for veg and it may be okay for autos but they are sometimes growing in a 20/4 light cycle by many growers of auto plants. You are probably better off talking to someone who is a auto grower with experience of the light and the cycles You’re not going to be needing a lot of light to grow your young plants and they only need something like a t5 or a led light of higher power and the dimmer on the 30%/50% is better to have a lux meter and then you can get a better idea of the intensity and adjust it I used to have my lights on the young plants for 24hrs I thought it would be better for them to grow. The only thing that is going to be happening is the electric bill will be a lot more than the 18/6 but that’s the photo but I don’t think it would be any benefit to running the light for the 24hrs unless you can do them under a 24hr cycle for the complete growing period ? If they are going to be getting a 20/4 or a 18/6 i would be the same for the whole grow only grown autos in my early years and I have not been lucky with them personally peace ✌️

Only reason to keep the lights on would be to maintain temps if you are not well controlled / insulated or you have a cold lung room.

18/6 is my

I use LED, I found that my plants liked having 24 hrs of light until the flip.

No issues.

Sounds like you're just wasting electricty . But fuckk ittttt
This is what I'm wondering.
I'm growing autoflower so the light cycle shouldn't matter.
But is the maybe extra 6 hrs of growth worth it.

I disagree with this statement. Flipping from veg to flower doesn’t apply but I still think plants need a night to be the best version of themselves.

That's crazy I'm only doing this as a hobby and I'm into it for 1000 in equipment.
I bought all energy efficient stuff so intotal less electricity then my computer.

Either 18hrs or 24hrs work. I've tried both and I like 18 hrs. saves electricity. not much but both were pretty much equal.

Not to confuse I'm not giving advice I'm asking for advise.
Based on your last comment and others.
The risk to reward is not worth it.
I'll be growing 18 on and 6 off for the full cycle.
Cheers.!

I run everything 24/7 lights on with seedlings,
Clones and veg plants. I have never seen any difference when using 6 hours lights out.

seedlings, 24 hrs light

clones 24 hrs light
44B8D236 B6E0 4437 BDE3 5EA2C8C4AA66
clones in veg, 24 hr light (most are 2 month clones at this point).
Larger plants are mothers.
The only time these plants see dark is when I do my maintenance spraying every 5-7 days and they only see 2 hrs of dark that day.
Totals approximately 8-10 hrs darkness a month……if that.
I have zero issues with growth.
Hope that helps:)

Can you rin autoflowers at 12 12 if light cycles aren't too important? Or is 18 6 the least daytime you can give? Do you have to flip to 12 12 when they flower themselves?

As 1diesel1 has shown, it is totally possible and a style of growing to not turn the lights off.

This is an interesting read:

I have done testing on lots of plants in veg to see what steers them. At the time I was trying to coax THCV out of photo plants. What I can tell you is cannabinoid production starts much earlier than I expected. I did not test 24hour lights, nor have I tested on autos.

We don't fully understand everything about all this and to be honest there are too many variables to make blanket statements. But I think there have been enough studies done to start to get a basic hypothesis together on what would be the best method, and follow it up with personal testing.

Clearly, it works either way and unless you are driving for something specific, we may be picking fly shit out of pepper with this one lol

I'm not sure this is the case, but I can see how you got there.

You are assuming that the plant does not grow / finish 25% faster with 25% more photons in a given time. If it does, no electricity is wasted.

Personally I don't know if it does or not.

let the plant tell you. you will see a response. all the data provided was gold. i jus know, some ladies are picky. talk to them
