I wanted to try out COBs for a while but I too felt the boards offer better distribution and also wanted to get away from that hot spot HPS style of lighting. Good to have you around to talk about LED!Cobs are good if you have the room. Bigger panels offer better distribution of light and the ability to get your light closer to the plants. Trying to get away from cob in my tent. It's not optimal.
Yup I have ran FFOF straight out of the bag and it is pretty hot no doubt. Great stuff. This LC's #2 mix consists of 60% FFOF, 20% added perlite, and 20% added worm castings so about 40% of the initial amendments have been diluted. That's why I added back amendments but like you are thinking it is a strong mix and that's why when going this route it's important to start the seedlings/clones in the base mix listed at the start without amendments. The hot mix comes in later when transplanting. If i added all those amendments to 100% FFOF I would definitely be scaredVery interesting. I've always considered FFOF RTU. I mean it's not super soil hot but its fully amended.
Have you Ran the FFOF straight without all the adds.
When it comes to amendments blood meal can have your soil cooking if you know what I mean.

I probably won't install all 8 of the bars. I'm thinking probably 4-6 but it is nice to have extras if needed. The Kelvin rating was not stated but I'm assuming full spectrum is 4000k and the spectral chart looks good. What I like about the plug and play lamps is they easily connect to each other and they each individually have on/off switches.
- 2ft Barrina Full Spectrum(assuming 4000K
) LED plug and play 8 pack at 80w(10w each)
I'm really liking the idea of these upgrades so far. The bottom section will provide better veg results and I'll also be able to flower an auto or two under it when I feel like it. The top section will have more of an even coverage with the versatility of placing the 2ft LED strips. I'll more than likely get better seed/clone results and the increased spread in coverage will allow me to try out growing some microgreens.
I am also upgrading the lighting in my 4x4 Flower tent!

It is going to be a lot of fun to see how everything goes with all this new stuff. At any rate the seedlings are doing well and will soon be moved into 1 gallon containers and then placed into the bottom section to enjoy some 3500K LED lighting. After they become established and go through a touch of training they will then be moved to the 4x4 tent under 3000K LED lighting.

Here is my reasoning:
- I want to see how Samsung diodes preform by themselves
- I didn't want to mix different diodes on the same board in case certain types fail before others
- The boards with Cree XP-E2 red diodes cost considerably more than the Samsung only boards and I am skeptical of Epistar
- For the price increase of the Cree XP-E2 I can always add stand alone red diode strips later on if I feel the need and not lose any money I wouldn't have already spent initially on a mixed board
- I went with 3000K because I seem to see a lot of people having success with that kelvin rating and those that do use 3500K usually use it in conjunction with the far red diodes. What's nice is I already have that 3500K board in my veg section with only Samsung diodes so when I grow an auto or so under it I can determine how well it does as a stand alone without the far red addition.

Alright! Things are about the start going a bit faster nowI just transplanted the seedlings yesterday into 1gal containers with the amended soil mix and moved them to the bottom of the veg section under the Kingbrite 240w LED fixture( two 288 Samsung LM301H boards 3500K ) at about 24" from the tops. The light is dimmed to about 60-70% right now. After they start taking off I will finally begin mainlining. I'm eager to try out this training technique alongside these new LED lights. So far things are looking good.
