So I found these, and am curious what I'm missing. It seems like you can get 500w of 3000k or 3500k Cree Cob lighting with heatsink, housing and driver included... for around $400

I know there must be something I'm forgetting but take a look and let me know.

Fair enough. Say one were comfortable going to Walmart in their poop-flap equipped adult onesie, then would you say those are a good deal? Is there anything I'm missing? How are they powered?

Ive been searching and searching for a 5 cob frame that will hold a timber light kit. Northern grow lights is out of almost all of them and the biggest they had was for 4 cobs. I dont know what thickness aluminum to buy and I dont have a scroll saw to cut it if I could find a sheet.
Anyone know what size angle iron I need to build a frame and have a pattern and an idea how I could cut it?

at the begining of this thread i have pics of 5 cob frames using stock angle from lowes or home depot.its simple to do,you can even buy it in 4 ft lengths or buy a 8 footer and cut it with a hacksaw.then is just a matter of drilling 2 holes for each heatsink to secure them.cost from those stores will be around 20 bucks for 2 x 4 ft plus some cross braces.if you email northerngrowlights.com and tell him you want the 5 cob bars he will sell them to you.i will be making a bunch of shit for him this week and i might even have a few 5 bangers already made ;)
but if you need more help making your own let me know and i will dig up some more pics for you to use or get ideas from.
as far as sheet aluminum,i think im pating 102.00 per sheet right now for 1/8 in bendable and it needs to be bent for strength.if you use 1/4in sheet its plenty strong enough to not need bends but costs around 170.00 per sheet in my area.

My nearest lowes or home depot is almost two hour drive away, I saw how to make a break with wood and hinges online, but buying an already built one sounds much much better.
Otherwise I could go to my local building center and explain to them why I need angle iron, what Im building with it and how the wife and kids are doing lol.
Is there a website that sells the angle iron and ships it?
Or pm me if you find an extra one that isnt going to northern.

Could you make something work with these? They deliver and they're already cut to size.

Yes,5 x 10 cnc plasma table.but i have them sent out for the bends.one day i might buy a nice hydro press but for now im done spending money on metal working.i been into welding/metal fab since i was 15.i actually went to school for it but decided i wanted to work outside soon after lol.most the stuff i have is justified for my business to repair my heavy equipment or make better designed attachments to fit them.but im thinking long term i wont be able to keep digging holes for a living and i will eventually fall back on the welding and metal art shit.

Thanks, sometimes I cant think straight. Would something like this with pre drilled holes work or would that make it not structurely sound enough to hold 5 cobs?
