Gonna buy another soon, or maybe do a full diy one next without the kit and with passive heat sinks

Keep us updated! That price almost seems too good to be true 8)

I will likely be ordering the 200w (3 cob CXB3590) kit for $299 which will supplement the ~400w (8 Cob CXB3590) that I have in a 4x4.

Thank you for that link! Roughly the same wattage at timber is ~$150 more.

I was getting price quotes on sourcing parts from Kingbrite directly and I am not sure it would be worth it.

CXB3590 3500K 36V 80RA + Ideal 50-2303CR + Ideal 50-2300AN + Reflector KB-D82-90RF were ~$38 per.

Driver pricing:
MW driver HLG-185H-C: $44.5usd/pcs
MW driver HLG-240H-C: $66.0usd/pcs
MW driver HLG-320H-C: $89.5usd/pcs

Shipping is $65 to East Coast.

So to put together that Rapid LED package ($38x3=$114+$66+$65) you're already at $245 without the heat sinks and framework.

Am I missing something? Or is there another place to source from that would make it less expensive to do a DIY?

Thanks :smoking:

Im sure if you sell diy kits it would be really easy to negotiate a good price directly from the china manufacturer if you were buying in bulk. Alibaba and dh gate are two places you could look but youd have to email or convo on the phone to set up shipments, im sure thats what they must do if its legit...

Also, of note.

Running 3 LED Cobs at 2.1A for ~200W the COBs are 49.71% effecient. (HLG-240H-C2100)
Running 4 LED Cobs at 1.4A for ~200W the COBs jump to 56.34% efficiency. (HLG-185H-C1400)

The COB price difference is ~$38 (1 more COB at 4 COB setup), but you save $22 on the driver. So it cost only $16 more to go from 49->56% efficiency. So (using my limited logic) the 3 COB costs barely less up front, but in the long run will not be nearly as good as the 4 COB setup for 200w. If my logic is wrong, or I am missing something please let me know.

Edit:
Running 5 Cobs at 1.05A for ~200W I see 60% efficiency.. (HLG-185H-C1050)
Running 6 Cobs at 0.7A drops off to ~145W and is 64% efficient. (HLG-240H-C700)

So - would it be better to run a 5 Cob or a 4 Cob array to get ~200w?

Oh, agreed, I just mean for the individual... I am having a hard time finding a way to make DIY CXB3590 cheaper than the kit.

Edit: Kingbrite is on Alibaba, that is where I was sourcing the pricing from.

so far i like my 1050 ma setups best because theres almost no heat and the growth under them is fanfuckintastic. 1400ma aint bad either but im just not seeing a big dif between the 2 setups.

Back when I was experimenting with led light bulbs for growing I bough a lot of stuff through Ali. Most of it turned out to be junk, failing within a months

Yes. If your buying Chinese crap for pennies, it will be bad. But if your just using Chinese distribution for the same product you would buy for a higher price, its apples and oranges. That being said there's something to be said for keeping your money in America

So as soon as i get some time i will be doing a build with these new square heatsinks from northern grow lights and the bars i have been working on. These bars have had some changes since the first set and i changed how the plasma cutter runs around the plate so it spends more time cutting and less time moving from hole to hole.plus a found a guy that can bend 1/8 in and 1/4 in plate for me so i made another tweak to this design this week, just waiting to get those back from the bender.should be kinda cool looking but heres the new heatsinks robinn @ngl is selling
View attachment 646871 View attachment 646872
For now i will prob build one out using the prototype bars since i still have a few laying around here that need to be drilled for these.
View attachment 646873
So it will look similar to this^^^ but different heatsinks and i plan to use the vero 29 gen 7 cobs on them.stay tuned

Hey six been a long time. Hope all is well. Just got a new room up and running and to say I'm intrigued would be an understatement. Please let me know cost on a light that will beat a 609 hps. Looking to save in the long run and if that means up front I need to spend so be it. Holla at me

what up man, been a min since i seen ya around.as far as matching or beating a 600w hid the best high quality panel i know of is this one from plc
if you get 2 or more they are about 775.00 each and you wont find a higher quality cob panel imo. if you choose to build your own theres so many ways to go lol.450w of cobs driven at 1050ma or 1400ma is going to be as good or better than a 600hps imo and 500w of cobs will spank a 600 . the plc fixture comes in around 1.80 per watt plug n play and you can build your own for about 1.50 to 1.60 depending on cobs used.if ya use the cheapest cobs and heatsinks it can be done for 1.20 to 1.30 per watt but i prefer cree chips and pin style heatsinks.
