I have been a medical use person since 1996 in California.
I have, after a decade, been able to grow my own medical supply once again here in Illinois.

Skunky Fruit is my cross of Green House's "The Doctor" and an unnamed regular strain that the breeder said to me, that he didn't like. Perhaps the impulse to get up and go out to walk laps in the park isn't for everyone. I know this as I burned some shoe rubber that season :) As usual I wish I had made seeds to save but alas this is what I have now.

To these people's credit the breeding was excellent and I appreciate what I have. Thanks to all those that did the work to make The Doctor and the Unnamed regular line I had to make my medical strain.

So, that is the background. Look up the genetics to get an idea about the linage if you are curious.
I will say that the "narcotic" effect is alive in Skunky Fruit, as promised by The Doctor. Nice medical-4 hour effect.

Okay so this is the cross of Skunky Fruit and DJ Short's Blue Dream.
I made an experimental cross about a decade ago and I barely had an eighth to sample. Then shortly after I was unable to grow anything for about ten years.
This is a recreation.

Skunky Fruit: Good for music, logic and focused creativity while feeling a little sedated.
Blue Dream remember was, if grown well, a wonderful smoke.
With Skunky Fruit x Blue Dream; that cross was good for feeling more about people for me. I remember that watching movies, which I love to do, was more emotionally involved. Perhaps enhances empathy.

So if this makes sense to you, I am growing out the first plants of this new cross.

Blue dream leaning

This is a Blue Dream leaning plant structure. The Branching is very interesting to me.
I assume this is a Male and still it was so fragrant very early in veg that I know I will keep this plant: male or female.
The parents of this were two tall Skunky Fruit males with one I called Apollo because of just how beautiful he was. Then as it would be, the luck of chance, I had a short pheno in the three seed males I grew.
I made sure that a majority of the seeding was from my short pheno. So the point I am making is the that this lovely branching (above) is the work of short daddy.

Skunky fruit leaning

Here we have a sibling. This is a Skunky Fruit leaning offspring.
It has been topped. This is a female I do believe and she has been the favorite of my sense of smell. If female she is daddy's girl for sure.
They smell wonderful.

Nothing is in stone. Could be one is male and the other female. I don't know for sure yet.

My grow is for medical. I am an licensed medical person in Illinois.
I grow the organic soil in large pot long veg in 15 gallon pots of hand made organic multi generational soil.
I am an avid organic soil guy and a champion of letting plants have a season to live before I harvest.

My Philosophy is that if I let them live a life the quality will be better.
I believe that because the leaves themselves are tasty either by chewing or by smoking. The Organic thing you know.
I am not in it for weight or profit, just "Mom and Pop"-ing it with seeds and personal supply.

Well, the environmental conditions and my misunderstanding of this strain's root depth for watering made these guys look like a near death experience due to me expecting the roots to go deep and then they went dry.
Blue Dream dominate roots for the both of them here I do believe. More frequent light watering is the thing.

Two things to say and that is they sure were sweet when they were young veg with one more so then the other.
I thought the sweet one was female and the other male because of that sweetness but it turns out they are opposite of what I thought. So Yes one female and she favors the skunk. She has a rather plain (stem rub) smell now that she is ready to flower. Loop sees pistils which means she is bursting to flower. That is very different for the same age as her one parent Skunky Fruit.
The Boy favors Blue Dream. He has that hint of of cream soda.
So I can flower the lady and clone the boy.

This brings me to a decision on making a cross. Shall I cross him with Kali Mist, Blueberry F5, Lemon Tree, Gorilla Kush (Auto Fem) or the one bonus seed from Attitude: Wedding Cake (ferm)?
I like the idea of Wedding Cake but I have never grown or smoked it.

W.C. looks interesting: Any reports?

Wedding Cake marijuana strain is a popular hybrid with a sweet, cakey, and earthy flavor profile, known for its high THC content and balanced effects. It's created by crossing Girl Scout Cookies and Cherry Pie. The strain is known for its euphoric, relaxed, and calming effects, making it a good choice for both recreational and medicinal use.

Key characteristics:
  • Flavor: Sweet cake, sour tanginess, and earthy hints.
  • Effects: Euphoric, relaxed, calming, and may help with anxiety, stress, and insomnia.
  • THC Content: Can reach up to 25%.
    • Parents: Girl Scout Cookies and Cherry Pie.
    • Also known as: Pink Cookies, Cake
Suggestions?

Your thoughts. Is Wedding Cake all the text suggests?

As always.. Obeying State Law here.

I have decided the name. "Lovely Day."
That is what it makes me feel like.

I like that song and the other morning I awoke and I felt as if the weight of my concerns had not left me for a nights sleep.
Then I thought about this cross and went into the room and saw her and him. Then I thought it's going to be a Lovely Day.

So that is how I named this strain.

Okay so it has been a while since posting about this cross of Skunky Fruit and Blue Dream.
They have not been trimmed or managed other then to bamboo them one stick.
I am looking at how it grows and this is Very Sativa! Blue Dream genetics are expressing Sativa growth style far exceeding Skunky Fruit which likes to be like Sativa but not like this.

It's Blue Dream that is expressing this growth style.

Very sativa

Smell: I remember the experimental cross from a decade ago and this smells like that except this has a strong note of Pepper which suggests caryophyllene may be strong in final.
So this is the initial grow of the F1. Both plants turned out to be female. One was short, sweet and eager to flower early. She is already a special girl to me. Her sister wanted to grow larger and get huge in the sun! But for the next cross where I select one to work with because I have a plant limit of five, I will consider tent growers. So Short-Sweet-Eager will be Daddy-Momma.
So again: In full compliance with the laws of the State of Illinois and "Keeping the seed!"

I'll update one more time and then final report. A full evaluation will take cure time and all.

Okay. because this is a test grow of some pollen chucking, I can say the following about "Lovely Day."

When young we will smell the sweet.
When it flowers it is a low odor strain. Very interesting because neither parent is.
It is a Sativa cola style.
It is lanky. By that I mean long branches that will do well in competition with other vegetation in the wild but here netting will help.
Now "First Sample Smoke Report."

Inhale : Needs cure before I can know better but exhale smells like a Cigar. Yes you read that right. Walk into the room and it smells like someone has smoked a Cigar.

So curious indeed. Low odor for flower but big odor when toked and smells like a Cigar. No Joke.

I will update on smoke report in a couple of months after cure time.
