Snip off the top, or not?

We were listening to a gardening programme and heard that the top shoot on a stem sends out chemicals which inhibit the growth of lower shoots. They recommended snipping the tip.

we’re growing autoflowering (short cycle). We’ve trained the plants and have lots of nice side-shoots.

would you snip?

No, for a short cycle autoflower it would cause too much stress and wouldn't be worth it.

btw, we’re not trying to create a double-headed plant. We already have 5/6 longish sidestems on the main stem. The idea is to promote them, and we aren’t expecting the original tip to form two stems.
