Hey everyone!... I'm 22 and from PA. I really can not stand living here to much longer. My plan is to move out to Colorado in May. I don't know to much about growing. But as a connoisseur would love to start, I know there is mad info on the net but I'm more of a hands on learner. Please someone message me so I can help you help me and we can help a lot of people. I am looking for a mentor!

hopefully watering the grass with it. I don't put mine down the drain, bad for the water system.

Everyday I thank the universe we decided to be outside of City limits... their rules are quite overbearing... What if you run on a septic tank? Cna you dump it down the drain then?

Yea cannagirl, a septic is fine. the residual ferts have a chance to break down in the soil over time or be consumed by plants before they enter the water supply. Just be careful about roots looking for those ferts destroying your septic. I've got a place with a cespool and I just run a hose downhill from the res and let gravity pour my ferts onto the topsoil. I try and do it in a spot away from my well.

Im not too worried, Im in Boulder County zoning, plus we only do two res changes a cycle... Good to know about the septic tanks though. i wonder what they will do with all of the private caregivers, especially since Boulder City is giving out occupational licenses to run an MMJ business out of your home

Dorje, I've been a fan of yours for quite a while, your posts about pulling 3lbs a light makes me very jealous! Yeah, I know, genetics play a big part, something I'm constantly working on. I'm tired of growing small and short plants with only 6' ceilings lol. Must be nice to have all that space there. Would you mind telling me what kinda nutes you use and how you go about watering with no waste? I'd like to do that but with the nutes I use I'm not sure its possible.

Yeah, the key is a $20 soil test kit for NPK and pH you can get at McGuckins. This way you will have a guide to get a feel for how much to feed them.

For nutes, I add a variety of stuff to the soil like EWC, kelp, guanos, bone/blood meal.... whatever's around. When I water I add Earth Juice or Age Old liquid nutes to fine-tune things, along with whatever else looks good... I also use molasses, AO fish and seaweed, Bcuzz bloom when I feel like it. It is better to underfeed and correct for it than overfeed. I let them use up nutes toward the end, I usually try to make them N-deficient and also cut off co2 the last week or 2.

So if you go through a run using the soil test kit as a guide and don't overfeed you won't have any salts built up in your soil that you need to flush out... just add more organic ferts and fine dolomite lime and it's ready to plant again.

Also, when watering you want to water just to the point of runoff then let it dry our pretty good. At first you might only need to water once a week, then every 3-4 days as they hit 12/12. Don't be afraid to overwater, I run a light mix and it's better to have to clean up some excess runoff than underwater the soil consistently... just make sure to let it dry out before watering again, consistent watering is important.

That sounds very familiar, I bet I asked you this over at Icmag or somewhere. Thanks for going so in depth! I will be picking up a soil test kit for sure. I'm using pbp soil and calmag+, a little LK and sweet. I just switched brands on dolomite lime and this crap I got from wtg called ag 65 dolomite is way too fast acting. I mixed up a batch of soil and amended it 50 percent strength with dolomite, after transplant and watering my ph was climbing to 8. I only put in 1 TBSP per galon of soil(sunshine #4) I can't believe this plant didn't get shocked from it, granted I repotted immediately but this girl has a 4 gallon root ball that was soaking wet, got man handled and still didn't show any signs of shock after being retransplanted. lol Thanks for the watering tips too! I hope to see pic's when its finished and looking like a forest in there!

You could get closer to the lamps and cut down on the 240 extentions or lamp cords depending on which way you were planning to get out to the hoods.

Luckily enough the rooms are clustered together close enough we can just do 1 board. UL and code requirements are a PITA, now I know the difference between the crap they sell at the hydro store and what safe wiring is. There is some dangerous stuff for sale IMO... combination 120/240 V 20A receptacles being fed with a 50 A service... not good.

But, the fuse holders in the 4x4 boxes are a PITA and really expensive (ordered by our electrician), so I'm going to stuff a bunch of 20A fuses or breakers inside the HUGE j-box the PLC and contactors are currently in, just moved the contactors closer to the PLC.... at least all the space in the j-box the electricians ordered won't go to waste and there will be 10 fewer 4x4s outside the j-box. Also, the duplex 240V 20A receptacles were a great find, can't get those at Home Depot... I didn't see the price but they are made in the USA by Hubbel, prolly $$$ but totally worth it.

The other issue is that cords are not allowed to pass through partitions, so if you want your ballasts outside your growing room you gotta come up with a solution for that one... (can't tell all, gotta make people work a little :winking0067:).

Quick update on this. The guys running hydro are going to use up their nutes growing duckweed, which is some sort of aquatic plant or seaweed. This is going to be used to feed Tilapia, which one of the guys doing this is involved with.

The requirements are on the city of Boulder's website, they will have to submit this plan to the city for approval. They also asked for a plan detailing how we will deal with the smell issue.



Update on construction:

We have finished drywall and paint and now we are running ducts, installing fans and roof jacks. Next is hanging lights and running ducts between the lights, then bed construction, which will be a frame of square steel tubing lined with recycled plastic sheet. We're talking nearly 1000' of tube and 1000 square feet of bed liner. We have enough dirt and supplies to open a garden store. I've set up a few grows but this one is a LOT of work and big $$$. Thats funny, I used to work on a tilapia farm. Most of the work we did growing fish was essentially hydroponics...large tanks, pumps, reservoirs, air stones...except we used natural ponds for filtration, and also had a system that would pump off all the fish waste (poop) into another tank. Often the dead fish on the bottoms of the tanks also got sucked into the waste tank. Little did I know back then that nasty mixture of dead fish and fish poop would of been some prime organic fertilizer....and then the cycle is complete!

I've been welding 1000' of steel tube into garden beds, finishing up the lighting controls and working on ducting. I'm tired but we're nearing the finish line... I hope to be done by next week. There has been a small crew of people working, much thanks to all who have helped!
