Socks' garden pic dump thread

Was just out in the garden and got a few pics of this big dragon fly that I was out there and which kept trying to land on my arm and flying around me.

The cherry pie is definitely gonna be the first plant harvested. The runtz looks like it may be second but its a couple weeks behind the cherry pie.

I don't think I'm gonna get any stem rot issues with the runtz that I buried the stem a couple feet deep. Haven't noticed any thing like that so seems like burying a older plants stem is doable. It seems like we've gotten a ton of rain this year where I'm at too which I would have thought would make rotting more likely if it was gonna happen.

Yeah I wasn't sure how it would turn out but I'll feel more comfortable to do it again in the future now.

I started another thread about a friend's plants one of which got attacked by what turned out to be termites! She ended up ordering some nematodes to try to kill any more in her yard along with other pests.

Since the smallest amount she could order covers way more than her yard she's gonna hook me up with what she has left over and in gonna use them in my yard. what she is ordering also kills a bunch of types of caterpillars, grub, and other bugs as well as termites so I'm hoping this will take care of the caterpillars and certain other bugs I get eating my plants.

If it works good I'll probably just start using these every year since they are fairly cheap and would save me a lot of time spraying my plants with shit.

You shouldn’t have to bury very many of them if you don’t let drunks stumble out there and fall on them! I know! Easier said than done!

That’s one reason Mine are 200 yards away from the house! Most drunks can’t stumble out far! Including me! L O L

Well I don't have a ton of room to keep mother plants through the winter so I've been growing mine in the living room and the drunks sit in the next room(no divider between the rooms besides a counter) and they stumble past the plants on their way to bed so its easier said than done keeping drunks from falling on my shit .

Hell two summers ago my stepfather stepped on one of my plants branches drunk outside at 3am.... Looked at my security camera the next day to see what happened and I see him out there smelling my plants and too drunk to realiize he's stepping on a branch killing it.

one of my potato plants ended up dying super early so I ended waiting a few days then dug down into the mound until I saw there was a potato and buried it back up for another week like I read online was good for shelf life.

Well today I went out and dug up the mound with the dead plant so I could spread the dirt over the other mounds with living plants and these are the two potatoes I found . The plant has to have died right after it started to produce the potatoes.

And some pics from yesterday, the potassium issue was still advancing so I have increased the feeding again, I kinda figured id have some issues while I was trying to figure out the feeding schedule so I'm not too upset.

The runtz got hit the worst with the issues.

Yeah I was absolutely under feeding them but this is the first year I am feeding with non store bought fertilizers (jadam liquid fertilizer, aerated compost tea, and a bloom booster i just started a few weeks ago) so I was bound to make some kinda mistake hahaha. Oh well, all i can do now is adjust the feeding and hope for the best.

Homemade nitrogen fertilizer recipe #1: Urea and grass

Both of these recipes will produce fertilizers high in nitrogen with little of the two other macronutrients - phosphorus and potassium. Use only when the soil is deficient in nitrogen.

This is the easiest fertilizer to make at home - both ingredients are readily available: grass and urine! Urine is an overlooked nutrient source that is too often wasted. Grass clippings are a good source of nitrogen, with an NPK ratio of 4:2:1 (4 % nitrogen, 2 % potassium, 1 % phosphorus).

What you need:

One 5-gallon bucket
Grass clippings to loosely fill bucket
1/4 cup Epsom Salt
2 cups urine
water

How to make homemade nitrogen fertilizer recipe #1:

Fill a 5-gallon bucket with grass clippings.
Cover grass clippings with water and leave for three days
Mix 1/4 cup of Epsom salt with two cups of urine
Add the Epsom salt/urine mixture to the steeped grass clippings.
Strain the liquid and dilute it by half with water
Pour into a bottle, and it's ready to apply to the soil

Recipe for homemade nitrogen fertilizer #2: Coffee grounds

If using urine for your homemade nitrogen fertilizer feels out of your comfort zone, this recipe may be less intimidating and better smelling, and it still uses natural waste - coffee grounds.

For plants that like a lower acid content, use decaffeinated coffee grounds.

What you need:

2 cups coffee grounds
5 gallons water
Spray bottle

How to make homemade nitrogen fertilizer recipe #2:

Add two cups of used coffee grounds to 5 gallons of water
Leave overnight
Strain the liquid into a bottle, and add to the soil or spray directly onto your plant's leaves

Lmfao I actually read that article after your first message that's kinda funny.

Per your suggestion of giving them fertilizer high in N I gave the plants an extra feeding of my JLF today which is definitely high in N I just haven't used it as much lately since switching to aerated compost tea.

Been pretty busy lately but here are some pics from today . Still seeing some yellowing so I've been feeding every watering now using the JLF between compost teas.

Also just made a batch of labs as well as have a batch of calcium acetate cooking

My cherry pie is close to finished while my durban butter looks like it still has a long ways to go.

So I am starting to think atleast one if not two or three of the plants I thought were afghans are actually runtz which would be great considering the one runtz im positive about looks worse every day. I'm still adding JLF to every watering that I'm not doing aerated compost tea or the bloom booster so they are getting some kinda food every watering.

Next year I'm gonna be feeding quite a bit more earlier on to try to avoid these issues, I was expecting issues this year while I got used to the new fertilizers so it is what it is.

I Started another batch of the JLF this time in a old 95 gallon recycling bin which is just over 3 times as much as the batch i started last summer. This new batches I've tried to make it mostly with just flowers/fruits/ seed pods to try to make.it more suitable for plants in bloom.

Harvested the cherry pie already when it was about 30/70 amber/milky. Everything else is looking fantastic! Still feeding with every watering and have realized every single clone I kept this year turned out to be runtz . I don't even know how they are all runtz when I thought I had given away all the runtz and kept afghans so the only afghans I have are the two mothers but either way I'm not complaining!

My yard has been reeking for a couple weeks but now it's so strong it's the first Thing I smell when I wake up.
