Am I learning that certain bagged soils have unhealthy bugs from the start?

yes indeed. FF is notorious. Both from a mfgring origin and from storage as the bags have little vent holes and if stored outside which a lot of nurseries do wallaaa you have hitch hikers.

A way around that to help ensure no pests is when you are in early veg do a good soil drench 2-3 times about 5 days apart and use a foliar application as well well before flower and you should be almost problem free.
