Hey guys, I have a couple equipment questions. I just bought a new vac pump and a scientific lab grade vac chamber, but I'm kind of clueless how to hook it up... seriously...

So on some people's pictures I've seen that the hose has been cut in half, and the gauge just goes on the tee connector. I guess I'm not entirely clueless, but does the hose really just get jammed onto that brass bit on the vacuum pump? And should I get some kind of valve? Or do I just remove the top of the lid to release vac pressure?

I'm most concerned about the valve and how I'm going to release the vac pressure. I am not experienced at all with this sort of equipment so I'd like to know how you guys do it.

A little hard to tell from here, but here goes:

The tee for the gauge goes in the hose.

The brass fitting, with the black cap tied to it, looks like a pump adaptor, and goes on the pump.

One of the black things goes on the pump and the other into the vacuum chamber.

The oil goes in the pump. Don't overfill.
