So figured this would be a good site to ask around and see if there were any other world cup fans and to see if anyone was starting to think about next summer's cup. I'm a huge fan of the world cup. I don't think there's another event quite like it. Been going since 1994 and have no plans of stopping now. Germany was absolutely the best time I've ever had but I'm hoping that South Africa will eclipse it.

So, any other footie fanatics trying to get their shit together for next summer? Also wondering how good the herb might be and how hard it might be to get the hook. If anyone has any info it would be greatly appreciated.

You'll have an absolute blast man!!
Its probably one of the easiest countries to score some grass. If you want an oz its called a "bankie" if you want like a dime its called a "match box". Locals call it "dagga" or "zol" another is "boom" . Indoor shouldnt be hard to get either. I dont know if your a drinker or not but we definitely like a proper drinking session. Just like anywhere else you just need a little common sense and some street smarts and all is gravy man.
Lots of killer beaches for surfing ...tons of casinos and shite load of whore houses...hehehe
enjoy

i went NUTS when cameroon won it in the early 90ss/late 80s.

while "soccer" isnt all that big in the US uts HUGE everywhere else ive been. honestly, i think the reason it didnt take off in the states, YET, is twofold.
americans HATE to see players FAKE a fall or injury. Futbol players are academy award actors. secondly, the lack of contact. we like our blood, what can we say. we pay atheletes ALOT in this country and we wanna see em WORK for it!

that being said.........im a fan of the world cup.....

......kinda partial to the brazilian and argentinian style of play.......

Dagga, that's all i needed to know. i haven't had a hard time sorting things out on any trips i've been on, but some places are a little more friendly than others. i'm not a huge drinker but crazy things happen when you go to the cup. didn't really have a choice in germany. beer was more available than water. lol. at least it was good beer though.

edelephant, same here. got my initial application at the fifa website in. last one in germany was a fiasco though. i hadn't heard any confirmation for the game that i had tried to get tix for. we just went anyways and were lucky enough to get another ticket source. we got back from a game, went to the hotel and checked our email and found out that our application was approved for the game the next day! so we had to shuffle our plans around to make it to frankfurt for a day trip or else we would have just paid for the tickets and not been able to use them. i really hope they sort out a lot of these issues this time around.

i did put in my application for a couple of games just for the hell of it, but i have a killer hookup with a friend through budweiser. since we had no confirmation i called up my friend and asked if there was anything he could do and i would pay any price. he sends me a list of like 10 games and says let me know how many you need for each game. i was over the top. got 3 tickets to 4 games all for $75 each. think i paid $175 for my tix through fifa. i'm all lined up again with my budweiser buddy but still put in an application just for shits and giggles. if you're serious about going and need help with tickets down the line, hit me up.

Dr. Herbal, i hear ya. nothing more than i want to see than for england to finally live up to their potential. the epl is the best league to watch imo but i think the foreign players might be doing something to hurt the national team. would love to see them figure things out though. would think that with lamps and gerrard in the middle of the pitch they would be able to handle anyone but i think they're just too big of a star for each other to make it work properly. we'll see though, they're always one of the teams i root for the most, ever since the days of gazza.

hubcap, cameroon won it? you talking about when they beat argentina in the opening game maybe? they did go pretty far in the 90 tourney but only got to the quarterfinals i believe, losing to england in pk's. either way they are an entertaining team to watch, as most african teams that get into the cup are. this one should be a special one for the african teams. if there was one that they might win, this could be it just from the support of the fans alone.

the lack of contact in a game is something that i don't think i can agree with you on. i've played for most of my life and can tell you for sure that it is certainly a contact sport. and one that you have to work for more than most sports. while american football is real bloody and has lots of contact, it also has a lot of time outs and stoppages. in a soccer game you get a rest at half time 45 minutes later. you try running for 90 minutes on end and then tell a soccer player that he's not working for it. might have a different respect for what they do after that.

what's not to like about the south american style of play. brazil will always be the standard for what i think most teams want to be like. that and they always have the hottest fans in the crowd. gotta love some samba.

your prolly right man. it was loooong time ago and world cup coverage in the states is lacking at best. i just remember the whole damn nation freaking out and i just loved it.....we yanks LOVE an underdog........
tks for the clarity.....

which teams, iyo, are the top 2 afri teams to keep an eye on???

ive played as well, and PERSONALLY, agree theres ALOT more punishment that goes on than what one sees on TV.......i remember giving a goalie a charlie horse on a corner kick and we scored because of it.refs all had eyes on the flag....i snuck in REAL close to the goalie and CRUNCH...knee to the hammy. bent em over... lol. its there its just not as much a PART of the game as, say, football or hockey. i can attest....ive picked up my nutsack after a few tuff runs on the pitch. lol.

aaamen. pele and the fans got me watchin. peles "bicycle kick" is why i started to play as a lad. and argentina....well......as much as i hate to see em win....they play is fast paced and technically brilliant to watch!

good post. not too many conversations bout this one in the US.....

I hear ya about gerrard and lamp they can play well together but only if gerrard is on the left or right if there in the center they both want to go forward and who ever has to stay back get mardy and ends up having a shit game its always the same. Since Cappellos come we have looked a new team its a fact he wont take any shit from any player whoever they are and know one is too big to lose there place. We won 2.1 tonight :banana:
Yeah the p,l is a dam good league but ya write to many foreign players but there are alot of young engish guys commin up through the ranks. Its not as bad as a few years ago then there was loads mate
Sooo hope i can get a few tickets for next year. might just have to go anyway try get tickets out there that if we get to the world cup
peace bro :)

Im thinking from Africa the top contenders are going to be
Nigeria, Cameroon and Ghana.
Would love to see South Africa do well...but im not liking what i see. We doing it proper in rugby and cricket but slacking in the soccer dept.
I'd like to see U.S. do well in the cup..their national team has improved tremendously!!! I mean US has absolutely dominated Mexico like 5 times now.

yeah, i think nigeria, cameroon, and ghana will probably have a strong showing should they qualify. ivory coast is another team that i would keep my eyes on should they make it to the cup. seems like morocco or tunisia seem to slip in there from the past, but who knows this go round.

you guys see argentina get drubbed 6-1 today?

Ahhh :D weed and football, my 2 favourite subjects :D

I cant wait for the world cup, we get to see all the greatest talent over a few weeks. Obviously I support my country and want them to win, but for me its all about seeing the skills on display. So many outstanding players to watch :D I dont know about which country will win (I wouldnt have bet on Italy to win the last one!!), but the players who I think r gonna RRRRRIP it up are Torres, Messi, Kaka, Fabregas, Gerrard, Rooney, C.Ronaldo, Podolski, D.Villa, C.Vella. Anyone else like to add any stars to look out for? Looking at that small list I just made, I see 3 spanish players, so right now I'm sayin spain could go all the way to the final :) I CANT WAIT!!:D Roll on 2010!!:D

after the eurocup last year, it was clear, Spain is dominating, only a cohesive brasil or argentina will do better. xavi, fabregas, puyol, villa, and torres!!

better call for :help:
