Stand alone GH waterfarm prob

Ok..i have had this thing a month now and it has brought two clones to the brink of death...I set PH at 5.8 to find it 7.4 in the morning...yes i rinsed the hydroton fully...yes i use close to R/O water(70ppm)
and have NO problems with my ebb and flow setups or dirt other than this...has anyone had success with stand alone????? three weeks and almost no growth!
A good source told me it would be to hard to regulate
PH in 2 gallons...however i had no troubles in my earlier years with ghetto ebb /flow setups..idk...tired of looking at sick plants.

My main question would be what are your temps? If your water is too cold, it will hinder growth.

72 degrees water in the little rez..air is 77...RH 50%.....i have put an airstone in the rez...now the PH goes down over three days instead of up...wtf? i have been setting it at 5.8 as suggested by many..then letting it go 3 days as also suggested by many....grrrrrrrrrrr
