Back in the day, I used to wrench on cars for a living! One of the old guys I worked with said that if I wanted to get my hands clean, just go home and do the dishes! Well, I guess I’m going to the crematorium with dirty hands!

does anyone mix wood ash with soil could it be beneficial or not a good idea the reason i ask is i burn nothing but wood for heat and have been told to till the ash in my outside vegetable garden
Yes people do use wood ash, I also burn for heat all winter once temps get under 30 consistently, I’ve only used it in my outdoor as I dump it in my compost pile which gets used in the garden every spring

Not sure what I’d mix as a ratio though

I know biochar was mentioned I think by @2Water

It’s probably close to those same ratio you’d use that at, but we burn to ash instead of char so not sure if it changes the composition fully burnt

Biochar will need to be inoculated/activated/charged before use, or it may rob your soil of microbes/nutrients while it establishes itself.

I wouldn’t dump straight wood ash (in any measurable quantity) directly in a potted plant. You would almost certainly change the PH of soil. You can make a feed with it though.

I mix up about 1/4-1/3 of a 5 gallon bucket with ash that has not gotten wet yet (no rain on ash pile), fill the bucket up with de chlorinated water (I just leave empty buckets around the yard outta sight to collect rain water) and stir with a paddle mixer, until fully dissolved/incorporated. Then dilute that mixture to around ~2 cups wood ash water to 1 gallon de chlorinated water, and use that mixture to feed.

I actually just started composing for my outside veg garden so that probably where most of my ash will go and as of now wood is my only source of heat which is a pain in the ass on the warmer days that still need heat in the house but it works wife is always opening windows cuz i have no control over my 1930-40s boiler hot or not🤣
