Stunted growth seedling what could be causing it?

Hello,

I’ve got 6 growing and all are healthy except one, does anyone know what could cause the yellowing and stunted growth?

No nutes yet.

Looks like over watering. I recommend stop using jiffy pots. I use rapid rooters to start all my seedlings.

Personally what I do is only add my nutes after I transplant to my final pot. My final pots are usually 3 gallon or 5 gallon fabric pots.

You will find that the little bag around your seed starter block is a problem . Although roots are supposed to grow threw them and they are supposed to be bio degradable. I have seen these bags in my garden 2 or 3 years after using them. And rots just do not grow threw them as readily as you are led to believe. It's a very good idea to carefully cut and remove the bag when planting seedling.

I do not believe that it is a good idea to have your seedlings sitting in the bottom of cups like this.
Maybe consider putting the cube on the table with the cup upside down over it as a little greenhouse. Check moisture daily.

Keep this in mind. The tap root of your seedling will grow out the bottom of those starter blocks in 2 or 3 days.
You need to have these seedlings planted into deep pots asap so the tap root can boar straight down without interference of any kind.

Think of it like this.
If the tap root goes to the bottom of a 4" deep cup then goes around and around. It does not matter after that how big the pot is.
You end up with a shallow root ball in the top 5" of the pot.

Now take that same seedling and let the tap root grow straight down to the bottom of a 12" deep pot. Then spread out and fill the pot.
Your plant will have a much larger root zone capable of collecting nutrients at a bout 5x the amount of the shallow ball.

I agree with the video on some points but, and this is a big but. When watering with a fertilizer with an N.P.K of 12-6-6 - 1/2 strength is going to give you a (N) ppm of around 200 ppm. A fertilizer like 5-15-5 - 1/2 strength will give you about (83) ppm Nitrogen.

200 ppm is suitable for an adult plant mid veg outdoor and will surly burn a seedling. 83 ppm N on the other hand will be more in line with plant needs. We the growers must take the time to educate ourselves so we have a basic understanding of fertilizers and how much food you are actually giving a plant if we are going to successfully grow plants that are thriving not just surviving the pant torture chambers we call grow tents.

I know but this is sour diesel and I was really looking forward to growing my own sour, the others are really good aswell but I’m hoping the sour can pull through, if not it will have to go.

Hate to burst your bubble but the real sour D is clone only. The odds you pop a seed and get the true pheno are near zero unless you have a giant field. Sparta that mfer

I have friends who start seeds in Jiffy pellets with great success. Couple things, though. First, if you don't have a lot of drainage holes cut in the bottom of those cups, you should. Sitting in water will drown them. Second, when you transplant, make sure to either cut or remove the fabric around the Jiffies, so the roots can grow easily. Some plants might be strong enough to grow through it, but others won't.

I think there are legit (or at least "more legit") versions of SD out there in seed form. Whether you have one of them depends on the source.

it's not required but can speed things up to have an in between size or sizes, some people go solo, 1gal, 3gal, 5gal. Others go solo, 3gal, 5gal or some other variation of it

the reason for transplanting up rather than starting in your final pot is it can make watering easier and encouraged roots to fill out the pot faster, better root system, better plant

I would recommend you remove the film. I did that with a leftover jiffy after a seedling died on me and had much better results.

Unlike clones, seeds do not need a dome or cover to create a high humidity climate as their roots and foliage grow equally.
Set these on the tray outside of the clear cups and mist gently with a spray bottle daily if they need ; this will solve the excess moisture issue that is stunting your seedlings.
No nutrients are required until they are at least in their first true pot, seedlings often are fine with 1/2 or even 1/4 strength nutrient solution.
On the rare occasion that seedlings go pale, a mild foliar nutrient could be given.
