hey all,ive tried dwc myself, pretty much in the same way as ive seen suceed on many forums[well, with an oxy pot as it goes]and two out of three times, shit, ive experienced what i can only describe as 'sudden death syndrome' ,this coming about through, about 3-4 weeks into grow, the clorophyl/greeness seems to leave the plant completely, leaving them dry n crisp where the plants around it,in coco[ive been growin over a decade and used many methods]all flourish!the only thing i can think contributes to this is along with an added airline im using a 'hydor' pump that comes with it,and these hydor pumps are submersible...meaning the water gets pretty warm due to the motopr being submersed-but surely thats not gonna make a difference after running fine for weeks?can anyone help me out here?dwc looks such a great method, but im drawing blanks!thanx peeps.

Exactly Jalisco. Sure sign of root rot most the time..

Do you change the res? I'd get a cycle timer for the pump, probably, it will keep things cooler - the pump won't heat up the res so much. Root rot, damping off/pythium wilt, etc are all possibilities.

thanx all.i really was watching those roots,on the first occasion,i can probably concur that this was probably it.however,i was using cannazyme the second time round, and i can only describe the roots as a mass of white dreadlocks!as i say, everything growing around it in coco was fine-darookie,yeah,i was thinking of putting the pump on a cycle, how much of an hr should i let it run?and i was changing the water weekly....the 2nd time it started to go tits up i gave it ph neutraql water,as i thought i may hjave possibly overdone the nutes, but the death of the plant was oh so quick....and sad!!!

I'm also interested in more info about this. My friend's DWC recently sufferend from the same sudden death syndrome.

On his case, it first hapened in a DWC box with 6-8 plants. The healthiest looking plant suddenly died.

Next, his biggest reeferman C99 in a single 30L bucket, 3 air pumps, GH Flora series + koolbloom, Cal Mag, nutes changed weekly, water temperature never above 22ÂșC, sufficient AC in the growroom, the roots appeared to be healthy, nice and white with no browning and no foul odors, all of the sudden started to wilt and dry and was dead a couple days later.

My first thought was that Pythium was to blame. But since the roots appeared to be healthy, we are still unsure of what was the real cause.

After reading up on the possibilites, one that seems plausible is Copper poisoning. He was not using RO water and the grow house is an old one, and there may be too much copper in his water, leading to toxicity.

Any comments are welcomed :)

any gnats flying around? Also look for white specks on the top of your res (eggs). Fungas gnats can wipeout a seemingly healthy plant in 2 days. It will litterally just dry out...

im a noob so excuse me if i sound dumb but why do you have a submersable pump in your res. i used an aquarium pump that was outside mu dwc tub and just the airstones in the res.

your res temp for dwc needs to be 68 f, if you cant control the res temps then move to Ebb & Flow where nute temps arent as critical b/c the roots are not submerged.

good luck
