sweet gum tree seed pods

hey there fellow farmers.. i have been scratching my head, and tryn to figure out if these seed pods could ground and used like coir. or could they b used in gardening at all? a big sweet gum drops mountains of seed pods. i have one in my yard and it is a big pain in the ass. but it makes great shade..

any thoughts on this?:pimp:
