You are definitely entitled to tax breaks. If you run as a caregiver (collective), then you have to 1099 yourself and technically you are considered a subcontractor when it comes to that, and you can write off all kinds of shit.
With personal taxes though, no way. You can only write off things like interest on your home loan. You cant write off a bunch of equipment.
I would do exaclty what tex says. open a business as a horticulture consultant. Keep track of all of your expenses (equipment, gas, meals, etc). Keep track of sales as "consultation services". By calling it a service, you are not liable for sales/use tax, because you are not selling a product, you are selling a service. Deposit your money as usual ( offset your expenses so you dont show a huge profit= less taxes to pay). Or pay your taxes on all money coming in... the american way.
Do not write off an unreasonable utility expense. Write off equipment and then your clients can reimburse you for it.
