Well back before led lights were a thing we had HPS and MH. The metal halide are "blue" and the sodium are "red" and you only ever used blue to veg. If you could only afford one or the other you went with HPS for both like I did because flower time is money time and you can can grow great flowers under sodium bulbs while the halide are poor finishers. We never used both at once because of heat and electricity but in my opinion the buds would have been better with a full spectrum all the time.

Those buttons on your light are basically like the same kind of switch. It's an idea that's been baked into cannabis cultivation since HID lights were the only option and blurple LEDs were a logical descendant.

So long story short I say leave em both all the time lol
Oh I remember parking lot lights well. I run LED now because electricity costs one child a year and I’m out of children. But if cost wasn’t a thing, that’s the set up I would use. I’ve ran HPS before but never used the halide lamps.

You do get tighter node spacing and stronger stems under 5000 and 6500k lighting. Even with 5000k led shop lights with decent diodes vs full spectrum panels. I just went back to 5000k for veg several months ago, and tbh i had totally forgotten about the benefits in veg with it. You can throw less intense light, and less wattage over a larger area with lower PAR and still maintain the same node spacing too. Excellent for cseed starting, cloning, and mothers.

at least that part is still true.

@TheGoldenRoad Having some blue or cool white in your flowering spectrum can help keep node spacing a little tighter during the stretch too. My plants def get less whacky under my whiter phlizon panels vs my warmer full spectrum panels. But it also seems a little easier to burn them at a lower PAR when they get close.

there are some surprisingly good quality full spectrum panels on the market for $60 and even less that will pretty handily out perform the blurple lights. But theres not really anything wrong with them. Theyll pay for themselves on effeciency over the blurple ones within a year or so much like the blurple will over hps too.

I had two GeryLove panels from China I got off Amazon for $30.00 a panel a few years back and they ran great.

I will say that I really like the FD4000. It’s nearing 40% and the bar is barely warm.

Happy effin’ Friday!

Gals got some well needed haircuts. I cleaned all of the air handlers today and dropped the lights to 17/7. For those of you growing in a shed, make sure you touch your wires. Often.

We ain’t driving’ old Dixie down today. We got some s*** to grow. 😁

Finally having some good spring weather eh? Man i planted my trays of zinnias and marigolds, planted sweetpeas and carrots. My potatoes are coming up like crazy. All the trees are leafing out and i can smell my mexican orange bushes beginning to bloom. Makes a person feel alive digging in the dirt i just love it.

You and me both. I’ve been outside since power tools could come on. Our trees are getting full too. We have a tree out front full of cherry blossoms… it’s great.

On a suggestion from the Boss on the topic of privacy and heat, the space lab will be picked up and moved inside the stadium spring 2026. This RV garage was here when we moved in. No more weather once you’re in there which will make this shed last forever.
