Some of these seed vendors will call a strain, Durban poison, but it is across between Durban poison, and say, skunk number one! To make it more palatable for the modern grower! I’ve seen that a few times! Sometimes the land race version is a little too wild and unpredictable! But some are straight up!
the true land race durban is a homogenous feralized pure sativa land race, just like the new world sativas. they are escaped feralized drug strain cannabis.. With true durban land race every single female and every single male is practically identical. theyre homogenous, or they wouldnt be considered a land race yet, they would still be called feral cultivars technically. Wild is a good word, but unpredictable definitely doesnt apply imho. Its actually one of the most predictable cultivars that exist.

Most seedbanks hybridize it to make it an easier plant to grow, but no ones going to be disappointed with the smoke quality on true durban land race. The wild homogenous cultivar can test well into the 20s... wild, uncultivated, and seeded lmao. Just like the afghan and thai land races. Whats going to disapoint them is the fact that growing a true durban female around no pollen will almost always force hermie the plant. The main reason durban gets hybridized though isnt to make it more consistent or predictable, that actually makes it less consistent and predictable unless you run a long chain of backcrosses on the original pheno...

Durban is naturally a genetically bound hermaphrodite plant when grown without pollen around in my experience. Thats probably a huge part of hybridizing it. Thats why i crossed it.

All the new world "gold" strains are hybridized because theyre usually only 10-12% thc in true land race form, and most people are going to whine about the flower then accuse you of ripping them off if you give them the straight land race because some other seedbank "has it and its a 25% thc indica" apparently. That does not apply to durban, true afghanica, or thai though. Its not a matter of predictability and consistency or potency with them, and true sativa land races are the most predictable and homogenous naturally occurring plants that exist, and durban is actually one of the most consistent there is in that group. Its more consistent than any wild columbian, thai, or afghan cultivars as of today thanks to geographic isolation from other genepools. There is a seamless constant transition from thailand to india to afghanistan, and youll find pure thais to pure afghans, and just about every expression in between on the way. All the wild durbans are nearly identical though. Theres only one cultivar of them. The nearest other cultivars are like 1000 miles to the north of Durban.

I just know that four or five years ago you would see something called Durban poison, but look into the description of it and it was crossed with something modern! I don’t know why or when or how but I know it just pays to look into the description so you know what you’re really getting! There’s a little deception going on sometimes!

oh yea for sure, im actually agreeing with you mostly, im just rambling on about it and adding more info lmao.

You will find very few true sativa land races in any seedbanks though, thats a fact. Theyre all hybridized awith something modern and then backcrossed because theyre afraid their buyers will be disappointed otherwise.

side note thats kinda funny: Ive grown probably 20 "durban" plants. from like 5 different sources. Its the most hermie prone plant ive ever grown. I think iv only ever had 1 totally clean durban. They herm out if you so much as give em a stink eye lmao. My assumption this has a lot to do with the reg back crosses before making a fem seedbank seed is just an assumption, but i think its pretty accurate considering durban is homogenous and very high quality as is when wild. I dont think its possible to run backcrosses on a true durban female without stacking the recessive hermie trait on itself repeatedly because its already a part of their homogenous Allele sets in the wild. If i wanted to make a stable "durban" seed, id just run a regseed f1 with a complimentary sativa that has no recessive genetically bound hermie trait, and run it down to like f8 then run some backcrosses on the famale durban, the back cross to the complimentary female at the end that i knew did not have the recessive trait.

That wouldnt be durban anymore though, but it would definitely remind you of it. But it also wouldnt herm out on you at the final fem backcross generation either. And id bet youd only get 3-5 female pheno expressions in the seed.

That’s why I go through places like the real seed company or the land race team. To hopefully get something that is as close to the original as possible! Whether they have been collected from their homeland or maintained via open pollination! I love the unpredictability! And I have found that’s a low THC land races that I have grown will still get you a pretty heavy buzz! That’s why I’m kind of dubious about all these claims of 35% Thc! Four or five years ago nothing was over 22! I think there has been some manipulating of the numbers over the last few years! But I am just an old skeptic! Lol! And the reason I say that is because I used to go through Humboldt seed company back in the day and all their stuff was up to about 22%! Then all these other sites started advertising 28, 30, 32! Then the next year HSC was advertising the same amounts! It looked pretty fishy!😂

im with you there, ill take an old 16% thc kosher kush over a modern 30% thc ghost train haze all day, any day. Forever and then some.

My current half columbian peaceblaster phenos all prob sit at 20% or less, pb4 is prob higher then that tho, and i enjoy smoking on them a good bit more then most my smack you in the face clones.

Ive had several seedbank's "columbian/acapulco/michoacan gold", and ill take my true land race F1 phenos over those plants any day too, and ill take my wild harvested michoacan and oaxaca seeds, my "smoke for the coyotes and dragonflies" over the seedbank "gold" versions any day too. Even if i dont get railed on a single fat rip lol.

@Oldchucky half the seedbanks with "columbian gold" claim its the authentic land race, while also claiming its a stable indica/indica dominant hybrid, same with michoacan and oaxaca gold 🤣 🤣 🤣

They might as well be smacking their chest and yelling "DERP" over a loudspeaker imho. Sure guys, indicas can TOTALLY grow wild in rainforest mountains of central and south america! you totally didnt just stabilize a new hybrid genotype and slap a name on it at all!

Sorry for the journal hijack TGR, i forgot we werent in the trainwreck :3

I’m bummed I missed the Red Bud wagon

Isn’t that the truth. When I buy seeds online, I read the entire page to include the small s*** at the bottom. Then it’s off to read the entire FAQ page including the small s*** at the bottom. If it all checks out, it’s a go. If the tiniest thing looks off I’m out. 😆

I’ve found more things out about seeds from their FAQ page from breeders. That’s where all the dirt and stuff you have to be worried about is posted.

You can get red bud seeds! But it requires a leap of faith that dealing with the land race team is on the up and up! When you deal with these guys, you’re actually dealing with a person via email! I wasn’t disappointed last year with the real seed company! This is my first venture with the land race team! And so far so good! With any luck, we will see the results in November! You’re entering the land of no guarantees and you have to make it work! That’s the best part about it! Fuck that Groundhog Day shit!✌️🍻

bringing the true sativa land races into my own lineages was the best move ive ever made for outdoor growing.

but man, my pure oaxaca female is already as tall as i am though, month after i put it in ground, and it wont be done til thanksgiving here 😱

That’s the beauty of it! Lol! Keeps you hopping! And I have found that when you give some of this land race stuff decent soil and water they can really pretty up for you! Not the scraggly shit you see outside of a hut over in Afghanistan! Lol!

the afghan land race might be the best cannabis flower ive ever smoked. And I didnt say strongest, i said best 😉💚

A better indica high does not exist imho, and it's the only reason any indicas are even any good at all in my honest opinion. Every time i have a super great indica, i can literally smell and taste the afghan and bubba in it, regardless of the name on it lmao. Every more pure looking indica ive had, that didnt have that trademark afghany-ness to the profile, ends up being a plant i dont enjoy smoking.

In the fall I’m going to do a run of Lazy Lightning from Bodhi that @MartyMcFly42oh sent. If I ran something like Grinspoon and got it to where Jan 1st was week 1 of flower, it would be ready by the first week of May indoors. Providing the summer harvest is good that is.

Because, come again? that feels super jumbled and mixed up, but i know it prob isnt. Or just dont mind me, thats totally fine too lmao.
