sorry if this sounds very basic but I would like to know why it is important to start off in small containers and gradually transplant into bigger containers.
Why not save the trouble and just grow it in the container you plan on using until it flowers out and chopped down.

for example, I have a fully rooted clone in rock wool and I plan on finishing my plants in 3 gallon containers. Am I losing out on something important if I just skip the small containers and immediately veg in the 3 gallons?

mainly, for room,i like to see the rootball,to check on roots!!ant think of any other at the moment.whatever works for ya man

Yeah I agree its mainly for space and its easier to work with a plant in a smaller pot. Any more I just go straight into the 5gal pot and I feel like the root development is better and the plants seem more hardy.
