Counting W for W, HPS has initial output of 130lm/W starting degrading once you turn it on. LED has initial output of +150lm/W loosing max 25% (usually about 5%) after 50K hours dependingnon the manufacturer but you can easily take that to 100K hours.
The rest depends on the spectrum. With LED you can grow seed to harvest with the same unit, wirh HPS not so good of idea.

Don the rest of the math
I guess there ok for small set ups on a large scale that would be a nightmare imo also with led I'm worried about the canopy and how big long and dense them buds end up what weight are u getting from 1sqm when ever I have seen led set ups in the past the canopy is thick but only about 8" deep have u any pics or can u point me in the right direction I'm up for trying new gadgets but the maths need to add up and it's still a risk so if u can imagine most grows if there guna get nicked or busted are in the 1st run then it might be big bucks down the drain I guess for those of u lucky enough to live in a respectful society that allows this beloved herb then all good I guess :)

Kinda looking at it from the wrong angle, its not 3x600W you need to replace, its how many sq/ft of growing area do you want to cover? i.e. just because you have 3 "lights" now doesnt mean anything when you swap over to COBS, it6s how big is the area and how much light do you want on that area etc

Then once you have the total area you want covered, n have worked out how many COBS it will take to do that, then you decide how you are going to split those up across the room, i.e. you could split it all over the room in 2ft sq frames/lights or you could make 10ft long 4" wide light bars that cover the length of your room n just have multiple bars etc etc etc

whatever the fuck you want, in any shape you want etc etc

A big one the size of the room so hopefully it's too much bother for the cops to chop up and take with them

Do you just do full rooms of 1 strain then? if not you may wanna split it up a bit for different height strains etc

what kinda area you looking to cover?

Aye I've fucked the tent out and I'm back to the room again. Rooms about 2.6 by 1.7. I always stick to 1 or 2 strains, 2 in the 2 wilma systems but 1 strain next grow in the rdwc

Can't give you any numbers for the setup I have right now since I was growing for seeds and had a male iso chamber in there. But with the old setup (125W) I pulled a gram per watt of total power consumption ( not lights only ), two runs in a row with same strains and three autoflowers while veging the photos. So I'm guessing I'm not pulling much less with this setup, but time will tell. Growing different strains that I've newer grown before might also give catastrophic results, who knows.

Will have to wait and see.

at a rough guess then you would be looking at something like 24x 50W COBS in something like an 8x3 pattern etc so roughly 1200W used something like that

All the best with the trial I'm interested to see how you get on with it :)

Check the link in my signature and dig back a little. Might find it funny but that closet kept me and the costs covered and also paid for the new setup.

The lines on grow room photographs are from the magnetic ballasts, u don't get them if u run digital ballasts. Nothing to do with the camera speed?? @LOBO456

evening fellow growers thought ide throw a couple pics up to introduce myself.
SLH and cheese 2 weeks in bloom

thanks.
Nice level canopy

even on mag ballasts a decent camera will make the lines disappear

or a blue lens like in the lumii glasses etc

Those lines will be there if the shutter speed is not synchronized with the ballast frequency be it magnetic or digital. With the digital ballast the frequency is much higher so the banding might not be obvious or visible at all bit the picture will be inder exposed ( like most of them are). On the other hand, some cameras synchronise shutter speed when whote ballance is set to tungsten I guess ( might be another setting), or even synchroniz the shitter when high frequency is being detected on the sensor.

Blue filter won't help there as it won't change the ballast frequency.

Wow I wish I would have found this when I was a little boy :)
