I was looking at them the other day there mega the guy was telling me about the control unit that powers them down auto when the heat start's getting too much but at £450 a go there a bit pricey and then there's all the gadgets that go with it too

Why would they? The 400V are on the bulb but they still put out 400W or 600W.
Why do gravitas need the extra hight ? I presumed but could well be wrong that because it's 400v it's projecting the light much more efficiently hence needing the extra head room like I said though I haven't done too much looking into it yet if u have please share

You don't need those gadgets mate. Years ago when they came out I bought one and put it over the biggest indoor plant I've ever grown, 1.8m2. The plant had had 2.5 lights over it 1 gavita, 1 adjusta and some side light and the section under the gavita was blatantly better than the section under the adjusta.denser frostier just better.

The 1000w need the height but the 600 are fine in a reg tent. But I've run the thou in s reg tent but you need to keep your plants low.I got my mammoth elite tents because eventually I want to go all gavita.

The reflector is projeting the light, the bulb is the source. 600w are still 600W be it 100, 240 or 400V. The difference is in the current the ballast is putting out. The lower the current the lower the losses (higher efficacy ), but that's not gonna make you hang your lights 10" higher. The difference isn't that huge. The reflector is all another story.

On a standard 600W the sweet spot for 1.2 sqm is 18" is this the same on 400v lights or does it need to be a little higher

i don't know mate I never measure I just go by the look of the plant and I put my hand on the canopy to test the heat. The gavita reflector does direct more heat straight down.

When I was learning the basics doing my lvl 3 it was explained to me that the wattage is the power and the voltage is the thing that pushes it so it kind of made sense that it was because of this they needed the extra room I'm guna have to do some looking into em. And I hear u that it's the reflector that projects the light but it's the bulb that immits it in the 1st place

P=U×I

Simple as that. We learned that in primary school.

So if the bulb is running at [email protected] or at [email protected] that always makes 600W. The plant really doesn't give a fuck.

Put that same bulb in a spot or a flood reflector and the plant will get pissed under the spot reflector at the same height.

The only difference between 400V and 240V bulb can be the spectrum because of the different frequency running through the different gas mixes in the bulbs emmiting different spectrums.

Like I said I've never looked into the science of em but I will do

So in your opinion is it the reflector that's doing it or the 400v part ?
