I do know CHP has actually been instructed not to bust people with Cannabis on hand, at least those with valid recommendations. But I am also aware that depending on the municipality the cops may be more or less lenient.

You are also very fortunate that you are in a medical state. There are lots of states that have no medical laws and the cops are quite intent on wiping the "marijuana scourge" from their home. So remember you are truly blessed and lucky and many more of us out there are not in the kind of situation you have been fortunate enough to find yourself in.
