he probably means 7mm08. It's very similar to .308 but lighter recoiling and what the silhouette guys use a lot. Very accurate round once you know about calculating trajectories. Even me personally if I was going to buy another hunting rifle for myself...

Even me personally if I was going to buy another hunting rifle for myself, it would be in .270 hands down. I have owned both and shot both a lot and the .308 is a bit too serious for me lol. I personally like a gun that isnt terribly violent when I pull the trigger.

Since I've gon all fukkin Zen and stopped killing stuff.. I've sold most of my hunting rifles and shotguns, used to have a huge collection. Still have some. This old Mossberg 146-b T handle is one of my favorites. The thing is anschutz accurate almost with its hand lapped barrel, holds a ton of bullets, and is just built better than modern .22's. Only thing I didnt like was the plastic trigger guard so I made my own lol. I made one out of metal flat bar, a welder, and files.. then slow rust blued it to match the rest of the metal parts of the gun. I like it much better now! lol. I'm also a fairly well respected Gunsmith/metal fabricator on the side locally..
The old scope is super clear and has really fine crosshairs, I love it. And it also has a swing away peep sight which I think is cool too. Just love the action on this old gurl. Smooth as silk.

This SKS I picked up ages ago and snagged a timber Smith stock for it for $50 because some wangrod hogged out the buttcheek to put a Russian sniper badge on it lol, it was horrible and ground your cheek when you shot it. I dug the wood out deeper to fully recess the badge and filled it over with clear epoxy so it was flush with the stock, smooth and clear. Turned out great considering what damage was already done, and is one of my funnest guns to shoot. The 7.62x39 is such a light recoiling round, especially in a semi.. I've got both regular box mags and Tapcos to fit it. Also removed the bayonet lug and Blued over it with slow rust blue. Lightened it up a bit and I dont think I'll need it anyway, if I'm being honest..lol.

Thanks man. It's funny, coming from a background of doing bedding and pillar jobs and chasing accuracy, I always kinda disliked the sks because of the way the stock snaps into place. But when I put this one together I was like damn.... That looks alright! And it's not meant for accuracy... So I fully bedded what little points you can bed with it and installed silicone gaskets to firm up the hand guard etc, locked it up solid. It's a really tight little rifle now.

I normally just bought guns to fix them up and flip but had to keep this one. It's such a good shooter too, never jams and holds 4 moa or so at 100m with Czech surplus ammo, which isnt bad for an SKS.

Beauty! You guys are so lucky. Being in Canada I'll never get a Restricted license because it just comes with too much hassle and gives RCMP permission to search your home without a warrant etc. SKS is about as close as I'll ever come to a semi auto center fire rifle lol.

I bet you could run that SKS through hell and back and still fire every time. I would like to get my hands on that for a little bit.

Alright. Lots of research and opinions from here and her family. All agree .270 would be best for her and them.

However. Mrs. Mmg is not afraid of recoil and loved shooting her dads .30 06 and his muzzle loader so if she takes the deal she can get a cleaning kit and case and ammo and still be under $300.

If she gets used to the kick and can shoot accurate at various ranges is there any other pros or cons with the .308 we should be aware of.

Apparently she really liked it when she held it. I was not there.

That's one of the things I love about it. Also I can fully strip it down to every component in about 20 seconds with no tools, using the gas piston to remove the trigger guard. And put it back together nearly as fast.
I have a deep appreciation for robust things that were designed well for their intended purpose. Took me a while to wrap my head around that last part with the sks being an accuracy hound lol.

Not really any cons I can think of man... Its inherently accurate, and there is a massive variety of ammo available for it, plus it's usually sold pretty much anywhere you can buy bullets. Ticks all the boxes for me. I just didnt have as much "fun" shooting it as I do other calibers, but as a tool to hunt with, it's a fantastic round. And the short action is nice.

the .270 casing is going to have the most gun powder so that will have the most kick, then the .308... My Remington 700 is .308 and it doesnt get much better than that. No real cons I can think of.

Now you're making me miss my tricked out Remington 788... That was a laser of a .308 I shot for a while. It would put all shots touching at 100 all day long with a front and rear rest...

Man I remember my .308 kicking harder than my 270. But again my memory is shit lol, and I've owned a load of guns in my life. Maybe I'm thinking of my .243 which I KNOW kicks like a baby lol..Now I'm questioning everything ?!?!

I think the worst was my Marlin 444 hot loaded with heavy cast bullets... The fireball was awesome and everyone on the firing lines hair would jump when I shot it.. lol, that thing was obnoxious.

I like the 308 its fine caliber, some makes kick worse then others but not really that bad , my favorite cal. 243 I thinks its one of the best ever made, I use it Deer coyote etc. A couple years ago I was in Texas and me and my boy went to gun range , we shot every rifle , AR's handguns they had it was fun , we shot the Desert Eagle 50 cal. hand gun . that was fun
