Well I've finally started to like this master-blend stuff. I've used a lot of different formula's over the years, I've got half full jugs and jars of every kind of fertilizers, from organics, to foxfarms, to AN 3 part, to bush-doctor, to organics like, humus, worm casings, kelp meal, bone meal, crab meal and guano... The list goes on and on, but I seen the master-blend here, heard good things, and thought I would give it a try.

For those that don't know, master-blend is a formula. MasterBlend fertilizers have been the go-to Hydroponic and Garden fertilizers for commercial gardeners for a long time. ... It's unique composition, it is recommended to use the 4-18-38 together with Magnesium Sulfate (Epsom Salt) and Calcium Nitrate for the ultimate balanced water soluble fertilizer.

I did a bit of organics with these plants early on, but now I've pretty much going entirely over to the masterblend at this point, and they've really exploded in the last few days. Colors look great, just need to refine the mixture down a little better, and maybe start taking some logs.

Please share your experiences with this product, or share some thoughts on improving it's use.

I used the 3 part for a bit, loved the results but didn’t like mixing! Had a hard time - mix, shake , mix more, shake more, mix again shake again . Man my back is killin me already. Lol now if I had it set up on bubbler and timer system then be different but I’m a Manuel water

Yea, so this shit should be virtually every time, correct? I'm just starting to wise up to that little fact, and if you go too strong, your going to murder them, so your kinda stuck doing the measure thing again.

I'm thinking concentrate the crap in a gallon jug, then figure out how much a cup of the stuff is, (60 grams, 60 grams and 30 grams) and go form there.
I do like it, and it allows for going lighter, and doing something else instead, like a humic acid wash, or some occasional kelp, or adding potassium bicarb, or potassium hydroxide toward the end. It certainly allows for constant manipulation of the recipe.

I like organic too but sometimes I think it could drive one insane, and there are many steps, so many variables and it's not exactly inexpensive either is it but they do have something in common: at the risk of opening up a can of worms: they both are chemical in nature, nature produces chemicals and they both produce chemical reactions.

Something I've been wondering about, you can pull a few organic tricks out of the bag with Masterblend, yes? For instance if I want to use a bit of kelp (as you mention), aloe, EWC, a Moringa tonic or FPJ, maybe a SST, (in your experience) is that safe to do with MB?
Additionally, I would think foliar feeding would present no issues. Some experimentation may be in order, what's a run without a few 'experiments' anyhoo?

I'm doing a little of what you say; yes. Keeping it relatively simple, but adding organic components, certainly driving some enzyme production.

Sometimes It's not so easy to 'back out' when you make a blunder either. Not to mention the time and the work that can be involved in making home-made concoctions!
But both do have something in common: at the risk of opening up a can of worms: they both are chemical in nature. Nature produces chemicals and they both produce chemical reactions. But why pit the two against each other when you can practice one and add to it some practical and practicable amount of the other: Organi-chem! I aim to simplify and enjoy the best of both worlds, if I may.

The results of this regime speak for themselves, here's some of the end results from this grow.
Masterblend used in compliment with other basic ingredients can make an affordable high quality fertilizer regime.

No 3 ways about it, either you weigh it up or you dole it out with a spoon! Which is superior when it comes to 'dosing' MasterBlend, spoon or scale? If you have an opinion or a tried and true method for measuring MB, fork it over! ;-)

Was thinking I would need a scale but since then have seen others measuring it out, 2-1-1 seems to be what peeps do and some use spoon, some use scale and some say fork it and throw the whole bag into the soil. Yep, saw that too!

Feel the rhythm with your hands
(Steal the rhythm while you can)
Spoonman
Speak the rhythm on your own
(Speak the rhythm all alone)
Spoonman
Spoonman, come together with your hands
Save me, I'm together with your plan
Save me, yeah
Save, oh
Well, all my friends are Indians
(All my friends are brown and red)
Spoonman
And all my friends are skeletons
(They beat the rhythm with their bones)
Spoonman
Oh, hmm

I mostly do it by developmental stage, by looking at it, then customize what I feel it needs. Spoon ratio's mostly that small one, and the one next to it, and I flatten the tops uniform, every time. precise measure, fast.

Then I have digital ppm, and bromothymol blue, cause I don't trust ph meters. That's what I used in lab all those years ago; so good enough for what I'm doing now.

Digital pH meters need to be high quality ($100 or more) and they need to be monitored constantly with expensive controls. Most people don't do that, and run there grows off the rails from bad sensors; or calibration errors. Been down that road, no more.

This is my screen saver, actually.

Bones speak, how they speak, the marrow far more clearly, loudly and with greater soul, the message in their sorrow;

Than those who make vows 'tongue in cheek,' no promise of tomorrow.

I'm looking at this bro, and thinking of ditching all the blends, make my own. @BurnzYzBudZz I think he's on the right track, bringing that phosphate even lower. (way low) Watching that grow, cause if there's efficient means of scavenging phosphate, I'm all for that one. More microorganisms = more complexity IMO.

Phosphate and microorganisms, especially beneficial AM fungi don't get along very well. That's always been the crux issue marrying salts to organics. ie. why can't we all get along, co-exist together. AM fungi is phosphate scavenger, and trades it off to the root zone, for carbs. Symbiosis. Hemostasis should be possible.

These could well prove to be highly adaptable; less expensive, more environmentally friendly and microbe friendly formulations.

Any thoughts on the numbers here people?
