Perlite and vermiculite are both good at retaining water, but vermiculite acts more like a sponge, holding much more water than perlite and offering less aeration for the plant roots. If you grow in 50/50 perlite vermiculite..... 12 hours after watering the vermiculite will still be soggy like a sponge and the perlite will have dried out quicker, thus making more oxygen available to the roots.

So just think of vermiculite as a simple sponge that holds your water and nutes.

But isn't vermiculite also a slow release source of silica ? That's what I read in my reasearch . I use 10% vermin and 20% perlite in my soil mix and the vermiculite is there for its slow realse silica properties . Cheers for the input bro

Yes it may leach off a little silica very slowly, unpredictably, but if you want guaranteed absorption buy silica separate. Vermiculite main benefit is great water retention.

So horsetail is great and any silica additive is pretty much the same. But the most gangsta thing about silica to me is that it fills in the gaps between cells. Which is how it beefs up leaves and stalks. Makes ur plant way better able to handle stress. Love the stuff. I believe it's one of those additives that are actually necessary. U can also get silica from de. Helps with bugs as well.

Funny because I had the exact same thing yesterday and it was the plant closest to the inlet in fact it was getting hammered by fresh air so that's gotta be the cause man I moved it away into the middle if the tent an last night it was fine n perky

I like growing in 100 gallon beds no till living soil. I have two beds fallowing and one room in bloom. I also have a 4x4x4 cab for mums and clones. In there I have GG#4 and Blue Orca.

Like tnelz said pretty much all silica does the same. Your plants look good though. Slight ridging I see maybe fro the higher heat but a few hits of silica in your schedule should help that right along. Looks good though!

Keep veemiculite out of ur mix. Imo it's really no good. Not really any good as an aerator and it keeps ur medium soggy. Hard to get a solid wet dry cycle with it in ur mix. Just 1 man's opinion. And the silica it adds is minimal at best.

Agsil 16h ... I get it by 4lb or bigger..

mix 150g / 1L - 560g / 1Gal to make just under 8%... very very similar to rhino skin and protekt but without the price tag.

Agreed just stopped using a ewc , verm , perlite mix about a month ago and it was the worst medium I've ever used . It holds way to much water and as growers we tend to over water before we underwater. I would dump my mix after a run and the verm would fall all over the compost pile never a solid root ball. Just didn't care for the stuff and my yields suffered big time

When you popping those beans ? No rush there yours to do as you please just I'm finding super stinky veg plants in all the f2s with little variation maybe 2 or 3 phenols max .
Got a feeling there will be some good plants in there . I'll know more in a month .

@Tnelz I have noticed that when I use Groteks silica it seems to precipitate out of solution, do you or anyone else notice this?

I once heard there is a sequence ( when to add in order of mixing nutes)to follow when using silica, and cannot remember what it was.

Any tips guys??
