I never go by the days. From my first plant. I don't even count. I can just tell when they are done.

The only reason I even know the day count at the end is because I'll look back at the flip day. Or for a grow diary or pic I'll put which week it is.

But I always have to look back to get that information, It has never once been in my head, "Oh, it's day 70, I should check em & maybe pull them." Maybe it's the green thumb in me, but that information, in my opinion, is absolutely irrelevant & immaterial. It's done, when it's done.

But looking back on the calendar, I've noticed that it's never 70 days, always more. That's just an observation, I don't think there is any correction that needs to be done. It's a plant, you harvest when it's "ripe," not just because it's 10 weeks old.

I can tell the growers who don't have other gardening experience because they will often talk about the day count. Off the top of my head (talking about other plants) I can't think of any, that you just pull when they hit a certain date. You pull it when it's ripe. The day count is really useless information, unless it's to plan for future runs of the same plant.

And after reading sea's "other ways to tell when shes done" plus all of what youve said day 60 or day 65 for me will be fascinating because ill get to know the final stages of development. So the day 60 mark for ME anyway is just to let me know that its time to start watching for the changes that all these OG growers know like the back of their hand

And is kinda fun for me anyhow. But yes i could see losing intrest when you already seen it happen however many times

@Tnelz when I did a flood / drain, it was also a 2x2 pre-built unit (maybe the same one). I did the white square pots, though I have wondered about airpots in that scenario. I did hydroton with 15 min flood every hour. This was prolly 8 years ago now and I had only previously used MG nutes at that time. I ran Flora Nova for that setup @ lucas ratio. Rooting was phenomenal and all over the trays at the end.

for some TMI. I pulled the system as; it took more water than I had been using, wasn't fond of adjusting pH / TDS daily and the yield was less than what I was doing at the time (soilless). Kinda funny now, but it took me coming on the forum and trying to do things the right way, that I finally saw those lower numbers again; though first time to see this in soilless. Then that took the last 1.5 - 2 years to figure out why!!

Here is my Alien OG. Its got its final trim done and going into the jar tonight. Pulled exactly 1.5Oz from it. Not too bad considering how slow it begged and finishing size. Loving this strain so far even though it's not cured. Has a nice og smell and taste, nothing too special. I give it a 7.5 out of 10.

@Tnelz I got you brother. Croutons all the way. Hydroton alone is inferior. Top feed until anchoring root growth then introduce the flooding. I used to flood once every 3-4 hours in 2 gal smart pots with croutons. I hate setups that drain back/mix into the rez now. Dtw here all the way, no fiddling with your rez, but once you nail it, its super easy.

So I've been running coco and soil forever. I do love dtw. Kinda bored that's why I decided to run a small table. It's a 2*2 with a 15 gallon rez. Runs mint. Going to keep it simple with the nutrients and use flora duo or Jack's or raw grow and bloom haven't decided yet. I'm going to run two of csi lbl x Bubba and one chocolate fondue from DNA. Been wanting to try that one for a while. Could be amazing. Anyway I'm gonna def do 1 gallon smarties with croutons. I def don't love recirc but I've run plenty of dwc so I can't imagine it will be to much of a pain in the ass. So @SpitXFire let me know if this sounds right. For the first week I'll top feed dtw then I'll begin to flood. Going to flood 1x 15 minutes after lights on. Here is where I get a little mixed up. Should I flood as long as it takes to fill or should I flood for like a determined amount of time. Since it takes 145 to fill I figure I'll flood for 2.5 minutes. After that I'll flood the same way half way through the light cycle in the same manner and then one more time 30 mins before lights off. Going to keep or try to keep poms between 4 and 6 hundred for veg and 7 to 850 for bloom assuming the ladies can tolerate it. Want to er on the side of caution. I'm told the chocolate fondue is not to fond of strong notes which is why I'm thinking I'll use the flora duo. Let me know if I'm on track here. Going to veg under a 600 watt led and the table will go in with the rest of my bloom plants under 2 1k lights in my new space. Only thing that worries me is rez Temps but I'm sure I can keep it between 73 and 76 and those Temps never caused any issues in dwc. Thanks for ur help. I'll probably lean on u untill I get comfy. Lol.

@Seamaiden is a wealth of information. What is best about her is she retains the info, whether in her head or bookmarks etc, & shares it with anyone looking. I've learned a lot from her in my short time here as well.

I get it lol. For dwc it doesn't make as much difference considering ur roots r submerged. With flood and drain I believe it to be not as good as the rockwool croutons due to the moisture holding capacity of the rw. The hydro ton would dry to fast so I'd have to irrigate more. Again though in dwc hydroton isn't quote unquote inferior. Ur fine brotha!

@Tnelz yup. hydroton is fine in DWC, and even works in F&D but you're abosultely right, it dries out too fast.

RW is best actually being top fed, according to grodan, but F&D works well. I would say don't base your feed on an arbitary number, same as pull dates. Its better to water less each time, and increase watering frequency just like coco dtw with synthetic nutes so I would say do what you're already planning. I base it on time to overflow add 3-5 minutes as you see fit, so if it fill in 2:30 I would go to 5-6 min flood times, and increase frequency. Also pump output counts, obviously I wouldnt tell ya to flood for 5 min if you have a tiny 5 gph pump lol. If you have dealt/comfy with DWC, then F&D is a breeze. Don't worry about the algae, it happens no big deal.

And I would recommend Jack's nute line as far as synthetics go, especially when trying new things out, much simpler keeping to a 3 part complete base, thats cheap. Won't have to overcomplicate things.

Another tip to new growers. FUCK THE ADDITIVES. KISS. Until you can pull a consistent A grade harvests with respectable numbers everytime, dont worry about this or that tiny detail in your feeding regiment. Don't overcomplicate it, it make a minute difference comparatively to much you could lose by not being able to track down the problem. I can rock a maxibloom room and best out a 3 year experienced grow running a whole AN line, everytime, guaranteed. Read the plants not the chart. When you feel like you have sufficent experience, then go ahead and tweak your feed regiment. I see too many guys chase phantom problems, without even knowing whats going on with their plant. Shit some of the best growers I know rock only FNB 1 part(which I'm running bc I miss lucas lol) and Jack's 3-2-1 mix.
