I had serious gnat issues for a long time. What I did was add 2-3" of straw on top for mulch. Any mulch will help. The soil stays moist below but the straw stays dry on top plus drys quickly too. I added a bunch of bti first then slapped a bunch of straw down. really worked well and I don't have any gnat issues now. my soil holds moisture more evenly and longer too.

I know i am being lazy and spending ore $$ then I have to on something that cost next to nothing but this is just so covienient right now...I am beyond super busy till I have to leave on the 22nd of this month! =(
