If you plan to veg, I'd do like Laz said & pick up an MH bulb. You don't want to veg under an HPS, if you can help it anyway @Tnelz mentioned to me one time you can get them at Home Depot for $29 if i recall correctly (what I paid). That is, if your ballast does both.

You should have a hygrometer though mounted/hanging at canopy height...to know if you are burning the plants or not. All your temp information & venting doesn't help if we don't know the tent/canopy temp. If you are in cold weather where you are at you should be fine. Hang the light as high as possible at first & lower it as they plants adjust. If in veg it should only be a few days.

Yea That raptor hood is the one im getting. I am baffled that it says ANYWHERE that you shouldn't/can't go over 1k. I had no idea (and don't think) they make a larger then 1k watt mh or hps bulb. And the the whole point/benefit (at least to me) is to use two 1k bulbs...Well I guess we will see at the end of next week or the beginning of the following week. Ill be running a 1k Genesis/Hortilux hps bulb(i have both) off a galaxy grow amp ballast and a 1k Hortilux Blue MH bulb off an Apollo 1k dimmable ballast! So HYPED!!!

Check it out carefully. I just checked what I could find of HTG ballasts, & I couldn't find a switchable 400. A pic would help.

yea take a pic like @str8smokn said....i think you might have a magnetic ballast which i am not really familar with....i know @SeaF0ur for sure uses mag ballest but idk who else(im sure other people here do)

I'll be down there again shortly to see the garden...I'll see if I can grab a pic of the label. I'm not exactly sure what it means either. Unless they are just expecting you to do a 600 & a 400 or something? But I picked it up for the same reason you were thinking about it...but I'm not sure how safe it is. I haven't burned down yet running 1400 in it lol.

It's a good hood. It's not as good a built quality as the Sun System ones, but it was significantly cheaper. The Sun System Epic is fantastic, but so much money.

I also run them without glass so I don't have a lot to say about that part. Except that the Raptor's glass system is better in my opinion. Every Synsystem hood I've had with the capture screws...one of the screws is cross threaded, or doesn't line up in the first place. But if you are hanging them yourself, it's way easier with the glass out (if there is a garden in the way I mean. They are heavy & awkward with the glass still attached.

Haha you like dem solos don't ya I call it soilponics promix +hydroponic nutes(sensibloom)= big plants in small cups

I use mags. I think I prefer mags actually.

What are the big differences between digital and mag I know one you can adjust the strength of the light I believe? Other than that I'm not to sure. And it's funny how it says 400 watt on it and the person was still confused about the light and how much it was for some reason....

You can get conversion metal halide bulbs that run in hps and there cheep . Seem to work ok .I've used a brand called power max witch works as good as most .

Well @LadyL.Bean runs the same hood with both a 1k mh and a 1k hps...i would be blown away if that is not what the hood was made for...it only makes sense...at least to me...

i dont know about magnetics except for that you never have to worry about disturbing any RF frequencies....Now with digital it depends...not all of them are adjustable/dimmable. Some are just for a certain wattage. Digitals are deff quieter and i believe run cooler...other then that someone more edgamacteded would have to chime in...lol

sweet! I was so excited when i got my first piece of grow equipment! Shit im still super excited about with some new gear im getting....Yea with that ballast i would ask @Ned Kelly more about that conversion bulb bc i am not familiar with it but it sounds like your best/cheapest option bc really you'd wanna be vegging with a mh otherwise your gonna have some tall, lanky, brittle plants

I probably only got about 2 weeks worth of veg maybe 3. just had shitty spectrum fluros now I got the right ones they slowed down on their stretching. Remer these are just for fun while I'm getting shit ready. got my first portion of the insurance policy today, a nice 10 grand $$$! still waiting on another 40...

also I'm leaning towards the gavita pro equipment.... first company to make their own bulb to match their hood. that's something that sticks out to me... that they are the first to make their own bulb that matches their hood.. but thank you all for all your love and support!
