i agree with all of this except price of a digi...i just got a 1k digi ballast for 109$
i was actually contemplating getting a 1k mag ballast this round but all the ones i saw were 140$ ish

I get my mags for 80 bucks and feel exactly the same.$140 is about right for a 1k maggie.
I think a kit to build them is under $100.
For me, the price isn't the important part. I don't want to deal with the RF, & I don't care about the heat. In fact, I'm using one right now to keep another tent warmer. The fact that the bulbs last longer (so I've been told, yet to vet that) & that it's so easy to fix are what I like.
I don't like "throwaway" stuff. Plus I like fixing things. Win, win, win.
