What are the growth modules made from?

the pump for this is loud if not silenced. here some pics of the box i have it in. it has 1 1/2 inches of sound deadening material then some styrofoam insulation, then some layers of sheetrock, and finally some plywood. i have a fan in it so when the pump kicks on it pulls air thru some holes in the side and blows out the top holes you see. iWith the pump inside the box you really cant hear the pump when it kicks in over the carbon fan filter blowing.

the pump only has to kick in 4 or 5 times aday for about 2 minute. so it doesnt run hardly ever. thats what i like about the HP compared to the Lp aero which has to run much more. although if you use a big enough pressure tank you can still go along time inbeween pump cycles with LP. this pressure tank only holds about 1.25 gallon under pressure.

everything is on wheels, the pump, the pods, the pressure tank control system. i did this because i wanted this system to be able to be taken down and stored as i dont run always. ive had systems where the tank and the controls were just mounted in closets or on the walls. ive always put my pods on wheels though so i can move them around as they got bigger.

this design is the same basic design ive always used. of coarse each time you build a system you try and incorporate what you learned from the last one. usually i always had a lifted silk screen in the bottom to keep the roots out of any runoff but didnt do that this time cause i thought since the sinks drained completly and there was so little flow thru the system i wouldnt need them but ive found out that even this HP system should have the lifted silk screen bottoms. i will incorporate that into the next larger chambers. otherwise i feel the system is pretty solid after going thru this first run.

I highly recommend the john guest fittings you see in the system. this is the first time ive used them besides on RO systems and man they are great. once everything is in place its just like legos everything can be swapped in and out and changed or moved with ease.
also at the end of a run you can just replace the tubing and reuse the fittings and start with a whole absolutly clean system for hardly anything. i figure it will be about 25 dollars worth of tubing to have everything new. the fittings are somewhat expensive but dont think ill ever go back to PVC and hose again.

I use to run my LP aero pods at 40-60 psi with accumulator tanks and they really did well. i ran 30 sec every 3 minutes. Now when i look back i can see i was overwatering and could have done better with less misting. either way though without the smaller droplets that higher pressures produce i dont think its possible to develop the fine root hairs that is suppose to make aero more effecient at water and nute uptake.

Even higher pressures without the instant on-off that an accumulator tank provides make it difficult to get the fine root hairs because the pump has to build up to pressure and then runs on after shut off. this drenches the roots and destroys the fine root hairs. Theres some guys that have tryed it (Icmag)and ive seen the pics and they dont have the fine root hairs. the only pics ive ever seen with fine root hairs are from the atomix machine.

I found the sound entered the room thru the pvc plumbing. I use my room as a sanctuary so I had problems using HP longer.I would rather get 15% less and a lot more reliability. I will see what you get over your other LP grows. If you get 1/3 more I will have to invest time in dampening that pump. I was thinking about using some parts from this system, . I make a tank that is 5' x 5' x 18" I was thinking of running 4 plants in it with those foggers.
In my gm1000 I run a 1/2" 7/24 low volume water line for the mat at the bottom. I am about 3 lbs every run per plant,if I could get 3.5+ I would change my room.
Clean work on your pump housing. I was lucky enough to get a roll of rubber for soundproofing from an old friend. I sandwich it in between soundboard. I used to use silicon in between.

the pics of the system are from the room i built the system in. now the pump sets outside the room by the 20 gallon res and feeds the control pod which sets in the room with the grow pods. the flexible tubing doesnt carry any sound to the structure unless its allowed to be in contact with the walls. where it passes thru the wall i have it surrounded with neoprene so the noise doesnt travel into the structure. your right before i did that the pulsating from the diaphram pump carryed thru to the structure but not anymore.

I find no difference in the reliability from my LP systems to this one as i used all the same parts in the LP systems as this just lower pressures. i know alot of peole think aero "you have nothing but clogged nozzels and your plants will die suddenly". when i would harvest a tree in my LP systems i would shut off the valve to that pod and it would be all day sometimes for me to trim by myself and even at the end of the day the girl still wasnt wilting. on this system i turned off the misters one day to take a pic of the roots and forgot to turn it back on to that pod. discovered it 12 hrs later the plant wasnt even wilted. i documented the fuck up on my RIU thread. the roots did suffer a little but not much.

Im not expecting much from these girls so it will take a couple of rounds to see what the HP does compared to the LP. Im use to a tree filling a 5x5 area that stands at least 5 feet. these little things are only 30-32 inches tall and 35inches wide. Also these are not tree material as i got almost zero stretch. surprised the hell out of me when they never stretched on the flip.

Your 5x5x18inch tank is about the size im considering for one single plant tree chamber. Im not going to try and convince you on the fogger link you provided but in my opinion the droplet size is to small. people talk about thier foggers but i never have seen a large plant grown with just foggers. the people who patended the atomix found that 30-80 micron is the ideal range. i have yet to see any roots that look like the atomix. go to UK420 and look up g-love threads on his experments with the atomix. no one can argue about the root quality of the 30-80micron unless someone has some material i havent seen. theres a guy who runs foggers (icmag)but he also has misters and i guess he says it will grow big that way. but just foggers i have yet to see a large plant grown.

Running the seperate line for the mat is something i have considered also. have the top with misters and keep the bottom a fast RDWC. Even this way though id use HP with 50 micron misters for the top. After using this HP only now i think it is possible to only use HP if one lifts the roots off the chamber floor with a elevated silk screen bottom. ive used these fake bottoms in my LP aero systems to keep the mat out of the runoff and i saw a marked difference when i did. the roots will not go thru a fine silk screen, i used them for years. i have the silk screen over the drains on this system and again the roots dont go thru yet the water will.

If your the same guy i remember (the freak)your work from the krusty, reaper, soquick days. 3 lb consistent is definatly respectable. of coarse this DD has moved the mark up now but lets see if it can be pushed even further.

Thanks for posting this thread! Ever since I joined on here at the Farm I have been amazed by the Tree style of growing and have been playing around with ideas for an aero tree style grow. Well needless to say you have answered alot of the questions that I had rattling around in my head.

Have you ever considered making larger chambers out of plywood and then using FRP or a urethane coating? How big of a container do you think you would need to support the root mass for a 5' tree using a HP Aero?

well im sorry ive never updated this thread guys. im currently about 3 weeks into flower on the second run with this system. im trying a different strain that is more sat dom. than the last indica dom ones. these have got bigger but still not what im looking for. this will be the last run in the original chambers. im am currently designing and building new ones based on what i have learned from this and the last run.

the chambers are definatly to small for any shrub bigger than about 1.5 lb. the new chambers will have roughly 4 times as much cubic feet for these crazy roots to fluff out in. hopefully then ill be able to reach some 3-4 lbers. it has been a wild and sometimes frustrating time but i have learned more running HP aero than in the 10 previous years of messing with plants. these things require a very keen and sharp attention to details because things move fast and you have to stay ahead of it. Ill probably post a couple of pics when this run finishes.

Looking forward to your update, tree farmer. Those have got to be the happiest roots I ever seen.....you have my attention! :)

heres a couple shots at 5 1/2 weeks in my expermental hp aero pods. dont really know how long this strain goes. the mother i took to 9 weeks and she wasnt all the way done so we will see how long these take in the high pressure aero system. its been tough trying to keep them going because the chambers are to crowded with roots for decent mist dispersion. ill get them to the finish line one way or another though. then on to the new chambers and some bigger shoes for the ladies feet.

nice tree those are still looking great despite the lack of room..what strain is that?and how big do you plan on making the tubs for the next run?

i was told it was a south african sativa. the guy who gave it me said he had it for about 10yrs. so you know how that goes. could be true could not be true. its definately sativa though as it has the thin leaves and long running colas and sativa up high. nice flavor and smell.

im going to go for around 125 gallon-150 gallon. as these are 22 gallon and i dont want to have to build larger ones again. i want the option to do a long veg time on a indica if need be.

nothing wrong with LP, simple and effective. thier doing ok considering but im kinda a nut when i know something could be better but cant do anything about it at the moment. adapt and survive has become my moto then learn from it.

end of week 7. looks like they might finish at 9 as i see them starting to show signs of turning the corner. theyve gotten pretty heavy so they should finish decent in spite of what its taken to get them this far.
