Trichomes not turning amber, first grow.

Hello everyone, first time grower here.

I'm growing 3 plants outdoors planted around the middle of may from this
(https://www.dutch-headshop.nl/auto-gorilla-cookies-zaden-huismerk-wietzaadjes) strain but in all the plants I can't find any amber trichomes. Should I wait with harvesting untill they turn or when?

Hi,

Your trichome pics taken outside won't look the same as they do indoors. That looks like an auto? It looks like a very happy plant!
I would personally wait until about 10-15% of them turn amber. Sometimes it seems like it's the proverbial pot that is watched and won't boil. It will happen, keep checking, they're close. Patience....If you have an iPhone, try zooming in to about 7x zoom and get up close and you'll be able to get better pics and be able to see easier if there is amber. Often it seems to happen almost overnight in my experience.

Also, use the buds themselves as the meter by which you decide to harvest. Often you'll find amber on the sugar leaves before the buds are ready to harvest. I think I see a little amber here and there in one of your pics, but it's really hard to tell.

If it is a sativa or a sativa dominant hybrid, there’s a good chance that they will never turn Amber. It’s part of the genetics of sativas. when this is the case, you have to go off pistils.
When they turn red or rust colored and they start turning back into the plant and you have 90%-95% coverage generally you should go ahead and chop.

Often this is dependent on genetics. Looking good though. As the other poster said, maybe take a look inside too. Nice work.

Capt Spaulding can you explain this in detail maybe with pics.. baby Yoda is a hybrid.. so you saying the pistols turn orange and that’s how you tell it’s time ?

I think the outdoor pictures show that the trikes are a little too clear still! Not milky enough! If you go for another week or two, you’ll probably start seeing some Amber! Just a little chirping from the peanut gallery!

They're all hybrids. It's the source strains that affect plant growth and maturity. We frequently grow sativa-dominant hybrids, and they do mature differently from indica-dominant hybrids. Generally speaking, however, and AFAIK, the ruderalis contribution mostly affects when the flowering stage begins.

Many consider the cloudy trichomes to be the most important. (See the chart below.)

I appreciate your input, thank you. Those are all indoor, that may have just been my inexperience w/ new phone changing hues. The one on the right is ripening slightly faster, all identical seeds and care, Pink Runtz pp from Royal Queen.

I wait til the nose it there and calyx are fat. Not every strains triches will amber, some take longer than others as well. Plus new triches are always growing.

If she stanks, and if you've watched the calyx triple in size you're probably very close.

If you rely on trichrome colour make sure you're checking deep within buds, the ones exposed to light and air amber first.

Yep 95% of them pistils should be red and curling, is usually when i chop sativas that have the predisposition to not go amber in flower.
and your trichs are all milky, so they are def pulling thc well. Still needs a while though.
And fact is since its a hybrid, and from the looks of it, a couple to 3 weeks still in flower at least, there is still plenty of time for the plant to kick amber.

Can i see close ups of some of your colas?

Yeah the amber obsession is real, mostly cloudy or all cloudy is what you want

I agree, the color change is easier to see, so we cling to it. "Milky" is subjective until you're experienced, that's my struggle. (Good struggle to have!)

As long as you hurry up and wait find something to do to keep you occupied, youll be gravy. Especially with sativa or hybrids.
