I find trimming the buds while they are on the stem and then hanging the stems causes the underside of the remaining leaves to wrap around the bud as it dries. This looks more aesthetically pleasing and protects more of the trichomes. Pain in the ass to do though.

It takes so much longer to do that though. I find the extra time isn’t worth it and it all looks the same once it’s in the bag. Being able to hold each bud and rotate it around while you trim just makes lighter work of the job.

Hence why I said it's a pain in the ass. ;)

Anyone in the game long enough will know how quickly the novelty of trimming wears off. Luckily there are many things you can do to make this task efficient and least painful as possible. Recruit good friends to help, pre make awesome food the night before and have regular periodic breaks. Listen to interesting audio books, music or whatever your crew are into.. As tempting as it might be, stay away from smoking - slows everyone down, and uppers - makes everyone edgy. Just buy good coffee instead. Have comfy seats, good lighting, good ventilation, think about all these things BEFORE you start… Buy good scissors for everybody!! Small light scissors that have sharp, pointed ends, and if you can find them, scissors that have padded finder grips. Blisters aren’t fun for anyone. Have a bottle of white spirits handy to keep scissors clean and working smoothly. Use cheap latex gloves so your hands don’t get sticky and you don’t have to waste time cleaning them every time you have a break, or want to rub your eye, or take a piss. (Anyone who has ever put fresh trichome oil in their eye will fucking know what I’m taking about!). If it’s a several day event make sure everyone has brought fresh clothes over that are kept in a separate room, so you can have a shower at the end of the day and knock off with a few drinks in town.

There's more than one way to skin a cat.

Personally, I have more important tasks to take care of than sit there an inhale the fumes of a freshly harvested crop. Nothing smells more strongly then a girl that was just brought down.

When I was a noob I'd trim right on harvest. Worst idea ever.

Now, I chop the entire plant at the bottom of the stalk and hang them to dry. During the 7 days they're hanging I do all my other tasks.

Drain the system. Clean the system. Replace the air stones. Refill the UC. Get the nute mix in. And drop my new rooted cuts in.

So by the time the crop is dry, I just setup my next run and it's a day or two into veg. During veg there's not much maintence so you can comfortably trim while knowing your next girls are all settled in.

Its much easier to trim dry buds and sometimes i don't even need to snip I can just flick the scissors under the leaf and it falls off itself.

By the time you're done trimming your girls are ready to flip to 12/12 and I start my scrog.

Ultimately, you just do whatever works for you

I've done that. Seems like a different life lived long ago. They both burn but from the acid you tripped balls. The fresh trim fingers to the eye just burns like hell with no reward.

I gave up trimming - these days, I turn my entire harvest into hash. I do 2 runs through the bubblebags, then I process it as frozen QWISO. It also has the benefit that I don't cough my head off from toking the green.

That’s true, the only loss is evidenced as the little ball of resin you get on your scissors. An entire harvest will only yield a few grams of this at most and it’s not lost anyway, you have it still.

Have to be rewarded for all that trimming somehow, right?

If I only made 400k a year I would hire trimmers, young pretty ones of the female persuasion an naked while trimming, then I believe trimming would be more fun? Just saying if I made 400k plus, just saying! Damn all, who stole my naked female trimmers!!! Likely those bastards over at ADM or some other big corporation, hate those guys always stealing the naked young female trimmers!

Yet I guess I'll have to settle for my scissor hash till I make 400k a year!

I think it definitely depends on the amount you're trimming. If it's less than a pound, then trimming dry is probably your preferred method. But if you've got more than that, then wet trimming becomes almost mandatory. Try hanging 100lbs worth of plants to dry before trimming. Most people don't have the room for that.

Somehow I doubt the OP is going to be needing to trim 100lbs if he's having to ask the question. ;) LOL
