I know a guy that's been growing for years. He swears by leaving more of the bud leaves on for a better smoke. There is plenty of resin there and shaving it off just seems like a waste.

Other people, far younger people, seem to think that buzzing the bud down to it's surface is the way to go.

Kind of reminds me of porn actually. Used to be when the old hippie dude was coming up the chicks had some bush and now days they're all bald like 12 year olds.

So what gives?

Its all a preference man!

Bud get you higher than leaves

The more leaves the less overall bud in the bag

everything depends on the level of thc on the leaf. if there is a ton, frost covered, leave it on. if not, clean up the buds better. thats my opinion at least

I think that a lot of people like the close cut trim because then you have more trim to work with for cooking or extracting. Also it look better, but if the leaves are seriously covered in trichomes you can leave it on and I don't think anyone will think it's that big of a deal.

leaving some leaf on certain strains helps bring out the colors and contrast as the buds are usually lighter colored then leaf and lots of times the reds and purples are more prominent in the leaf.

I tend to trim very close, its just a personal preference - to me leaf is harsh and I like a lot of trim for making hash.

I cut all the popcorn into the hash bag too.

I've always trimmed down to resin. If you can see the stem of the leaf, take it off. If you have to dig for it, and the leaf is covered with trichomes, maybe just take the tip off the leaf.

But then I've always preferred my women the way nature intended, and can't relate to that baldness down there.........

The weaker the bud is, the closer you need to trim unless you want to smoke 'hay'. It's true that us old hippies do NOT trim close. It's simply because we grow only the most potent chronic! ;) All seriousness aside, there has been a shift as of late. More and more younger growers are learning that leaving 'sugar' leaves intact on very fine cannabis not only improves the storage ability, but also the taste, smell and high profile. Ideally, it should be stored on the sticks and final manicuring done just before burning. Haze types in particular have very tasty inner floral leaflets that definitely should be left intact for best effect.

i was taught years ago to take her all the way down , but that also depends on if you are a commercial or a smoker ? commercial is all about looks because face it no one wants to buy a bag of leafs !!! but if you arer gonna smoke it yourself then you do the test and see which one you like better ! i like a little bit of leaf as noted above due to the fact on certain strains the leaf can bring out great color and in some cases trichome can be far down the leaf as well ! hope that helped brah
