tryin to help a friend

My buddies first grow ain't doin well. He says the plants looked great then he bought a new 1000 mh 12 hrs later they got waxy and look like this. I have q couple theories but want to hear some others.

hey bro, wat light did ur friend change from?
did he keep the 1000w the same distance away from the plants?
wat distance does he have it away from the plants rite now?
looks like they r pretty burnt to me bro, raise the light a lot or switch back to the less powerful light (that wud b wat i wud do) hopefully they will come around, ive burnt my girls before but not that bad lol

Thanks guys I have never seen it so bad. All he did was replace the bulb. It's at about three feet from the tops. Thanks guys.

Man use the back of your hand method....if your hand has discomfort then your plants will as well....thats how far the light should go from the canopy of the grow...you can stress them enough to herm if they are finicky...hope this helps.....dj
