TIGARD, Ore. -- A gas station explosion happened in Tigard early Sunday morning after two people were trying to extract hash oil from marijuana in the bathroom.
The 76 gas station and food mart bathroom at 10775 SW Greenburg Rd. in Tigard sustained significant damage after a fire extended through a false ceiling above while smoke filled the bathroom.
Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue were able to get access through the ceiling and extinguished the fire quickly. Tigard Police learned through their investigation two men were in the bathroom at the time of the explosion. Both Tigard men tried to put out the fire themselves, but 18 year-old Dennis Tapia and 23 year-old Jose Rios were taken from Providence St. Vincent to the Legacy Oregon Burn Center.
Both men suffered severe burns and there condition is unknown at this time.
The investigation is ongoing by Tigard Police and TVFR determined the cause of the fire was a heat gun.
