The home water softener that I have is similar to this one.

It stands about 4 feet tall and has a reservoir attachment. I believe this removes salts from the water pumped into it.

Instead of having the coco be drip to waste. I'd like to to collect the waste and pump it through the softener system. Would this remove the salt buildup in the runoff making it reusable? I would re-ph and re-nute it. The original water source would be RO water and the nutes would be non-organic.

I have never used water from a softener because, as I recall, it still leaves sufficient sodium ions to make it problematic for plants. You could certainly experiment with it, though.

why not just run it through a prefilter like a tall boy then back through ro? i would probably try that before i used a softener which isn't designed for our use.
