I have always ran horizontal lighting above the plants with hoods, wings, or whatever. Lately I have been introducing vertical hanging 1k with the cord hanging from the ceiling so the socket is the highest point. I have also installed on vertical with the socket towards the ground and the bulb towards the ceiling. This is way harder to accomplish, but it seems to put out more light and the plants around it seem to be doing better vs. hanging the cord from the ceiling. Has any other farmers out there tried anything like this?
