Wattage on during veg question

If I were to do a 1000 or 1200 watt grow in scrog what would be the best number of watts to use during veg? It seems as though most guys use less watts during veg. Do plants require less watts during veg?

Think it more or less about height and light penetration...

400watter is 2ft, 600watter is 4ft, 1000watter is 6ft.
So, it would not make sense to use 1000watts on a 6inch plant.

And yes, a flowering plant can take more intensity. The plant uptakes a lot more of EVERYTHING when it is flowering.

I have two 1000 watters in my veg room one for my mamas and one for my veg clones. Altho I veg two sections under the one 1000 watter, and by that I mean when the plants are done veg'n thy get get put under two 1000s to flower them.

yea they dont need as much light in the real early stages of veg but its better to get em used to the higher watts as soon as you think they can handle it. You dont wanna shock em once you start flowering. If you plan on upping the wattage you should do it during the mid or later stages of vegetating that way once you start flowering they wont get stressed.

I do start my clones under floresent lights but believe it or not I start my seeds under a 1000 watter and thy grow amazingly strong. And I only have the light about 2 feet away max.

i use floros for seeds, but i can see how under a hid they would do great as well. kinda like a seed out side, the sun is pretty strong. feijo, one would need more specifics about your grow.

I was always told 2/3 of the flower wattage for veg, for veg to keep up... I dont stick to those numbers but would if I had the space..

But, if you are doing a scrog the typical way and vegging the plants into the screen before flipping the switch to 12/12, then use all the light you have for flower.

if using 1000hps go with 400mh, if using 2 600hps could use 1 for veg.

Anytime I've ever started seeds under floros they've always grown spindley no matter how close the bulbs are. That's what got me thinkn about using a 1000 watter I thought it would be a closer match to the real deal sun. Even when sprouting my beans I like ta use little cups of dirt wth a teaspoon of worm castings at the bottom of the cup and I put the seeds uncracked under a thin layer of dirt sorta like it would be in nature. I get about 98% germination rate.

If that seems excessive keep in mind I make my own seeds aswell as buy them all the time so I always start a min of 100 seeds at a time :-)
