why not hit with organic
Calmag nuts line like Pure blend product ,I do believe those application of synthetic
calmag gonna kill off most or all of the soil food web microbes.
That's a great question. If your talking about Botanicares
Calmag.. that's not any better as it uses Calcium Nitrates. I had the same questions about trying Rooted LEaves Cal MAg Fuel. The quick answer from them was this...
CalMag Fuel is crafted with sustainability in mind, using plant-derived ingredients and a carbon-based formula. While it contains natural sources like fermented stevia leaf and orange peel, it's important to note that "organic" can have different meanings depending on certification standards. Our products focus on being environmentally friendly and enhancing soil health through innovative chemistry.
I had to look up Calcium Nitrate vs Calcium Acetate , Cal MAg Fuel uses Calcium Acetate.
Calcium nitrate and calcium acetate are both used as calcium fertilizers, providing calcium to plants for healthy growth and development. However, they differ in how they deliver calcium and their other effects on the plant and soil.
Calcium Nitrate:
Composition: Typically produced by reacting calcium carbonate with nitric acid.
Nutrients provided: Supplies both calcium and nitrate nitrogen.
Availability: Provides immediate calcium availability to plants. When dissolved in water, it readily dissociates into calcium and nitrate ions, available for plant uptake.
Consideration: Applying calcium nitrate also adds nitrogen, so fertilizer programs need to be adjusted accordingly to avoid excessive vegetative growth.
Use in hydroponics/greenhouse: Calcium nitrate is a common source of calcium and nitrate in these settings.
Not considered organic: It cannot be produced organically.
Calcium Acetate:
Composition: Derived from the reaction of calcium carbonate with acetic acid.
Nutrients provided: Primarily supplies calcium.
Availability: Highly water-soluble, making calcium immediately available for plant uptake. It is more soluble than calcium carbonate, calcium chloride, and calcium sulfate.
Advantages:
Faster means to deliver calcium compared to some other forms.
Benefits when applied as foliar spray: some product ends up on the soil, and its high solubility helps with root uptake, especially in hot, dry conditions.
Can potentially enhance root hair development, further aiding calcium movement.
Considered environmentally benign for sunscald protection.
Can correct calcium deficiency in soil conditions with low pH, high levels of magnesium, potassium, or ammonium, and low CEC soils
To answer your question... I agree that loading your soil with salts can kill off beneficial bacteria. I'm mostly using this as a foliar spray. Unil my dry amendments "catch up" to this Cal Mag whore I'm currently growing. I'm gonna dive deeper into using Cal MAg Fuel to see why Rooted Leaf believe it's a great organic solution. But great question!
And further looking into it I found this....
Cal Mag Fuel produced by Rooted Leaf Agritech, is considered an organic product. It is specifically formulated with a proprietary blend of chelated and complexed calcium and magnesium using organic acids that are recognized by plants and are safe for the environment.
CalMag Fuel is also free of nitrogen, phosphates, sulfates, chlorides, carbonates, and animal products, making it suitable for organic gardening.
Here's why
CalMag Fuel is considered organic:
Organic Acids:
The calcium and magnesium are chelated and complexed using a variety of organic acids recognized by plants.
No Synthetic Additives:
CalMag Fuel is free of synthetic nitrogen, phosphates, sulfates, chlorides, carbonates, and animal products, which are common ingredients in non-organic fertilizers.
Focus on Bioavailability:
The product emphasizes maximizing nutrient uptake by using a highly bioavailable form of calcium and magnesium.
Emphasis on Plant-Derived Ingredients:
The ingredients in
CalMag Fuel are derived from fermented plant material (such as citrus and stevia) and other plant-derived sources, aligning with organic principles.
Overall,
CalMag Fuel's composition and focus on plant-derived ingredients and bioavailability, along with the absence of synthetic additives, position it as a product suitable for organic gardening practices.
