Week4Bytch ..The Cannabis Karen

I wouldnt bank on it catching up. Might be some fire smoke though! : ) Totally agree, the few crosses I’ve had of gelato were all top shelf as far as aroma flavours and effects. That plant is too far along to chop unless you’ve got something special...

59 days and barely just starting to cloud up a bit (trichomes). I'm have to look back and see what I predicted. (Prediction was March 14th) CLOSE! We'll let these go till next Saturday to be safe. (68 days) Gelato & Okie WC

Sneak Peak on what's coming soon...

Serious Seeds AK-47 👀

I grew some of that outside in 2013. I also grew an AK-47 x Low rider. I think it was one of the first autos available and they sucked for consistency. You'd get like an ounce from one and maybe an 1/8 from another. They have come along way.

Autos are like a box of chocolates, you never know what your gonna get. 😏

I want to give Grandpa's Cookies another go at on an indoor grow. Maybe after the AK47. Flowers up nice, and quick. These are on pace to be done by next week! Fast flowering . The terps are like lemon zest. See what I can do with them in cooler temps with the AC always on inside.

Natures Good Guys.. I've been with this company for a bit, even with an occasional delivery of almost nothing but peatmoss and a few bugs you can count the fingers off one hand. And it happened again a few weeks ago. But instead of an apology, I got the run around as if I was a beginner with questions like, "what did you use to observe the number of bugs"? (Um maybe my EYES) "Whats your order number", (with the order number in bold letters in the SUBJECT LINE!!) They were freakn trolling me.,

My unofficial affiliation with Natures Good Guys is DONE. Gonna give Arbico Organics a try.

Aw man that sucks to hear. I just used them for the special blend of mites and got it quick. Pretty sure it saved my grow, or at least bought me more time enough to get them closer to finish. I wish they had a shipping program for repeat buyers. The mites aren’t horribly expensive to get but the shipping!? Got dang! 😂

i look forward to your reviews on AO : )

Thanks, I've been a long time supporter of them and have recommended them to a lot of growers. You won't believe how quick they're attitude changed when I mentioned "followers" . The next day they issued a full refund. But before that it was troll city. As if a high school punk was answering my emails. If your ever shorted or get dead on arrivals, let them know this isn't your first rodeo with beneficial insects. Takes years to build trust but a just moment to lose it. So yeah for sure, I'll keep you guys posted with ARBICO.

Oh I’ll bet! Not a good look really. Glad they made it right eventually.

You know what.

Thats why we the people made consumer rights wiki for the people.
There has also just been a browser extension released.

We are a lot of people that don''t like the turn big companies have taken.
It's a relatively new project and growing, but the only one of it's kind.

Found something on the Net that I just NERdED out on Big time.. Sort of understand it, it was posted in 2012

Hello, people!

“it is a fact that cal mag is necessary for optimum growth. Just ask any commercial or professional grower.”

Well, yes, that's true, but I am a professional grower and I don't use any calcium or magnesium supplements because I don't have to. That's because I use a nutrient that already contains more than adequate amounts of each and I run ph at levels that allow for sufficient uptake. In the greenhouse hydro industry growing tomatoes with drip irrigation in perlite culture many operations use bulk nutrient preparations that are dry and come in two parts. One part contains everything but calcium nitrate, the other part is calcium nitrate. They keep them separate to prevent magnesium sulfate and calcium nitrate from interacting. Just as the gh flora series, techniflora nutes and many others do, liquid or dry. The one part flora nova gets away with everything in one bottle as it is a colloidal suspension that separates during storage, thus preventing the interaction. However, there are many nutrient packages that don't contain sufficient cal-mag. Pure blend pro is a classic example. You absolutely must use cal-mag with it to avoid disaster.

I am currently using maxibloom for flowering. It is a one part product that does not have any reactions until you put it into solution in water. It contains ample amounts of cal-mag.

The calcium/magnesium deficiency most folks run into eventually using hydro nutes is caused by ph being maintained at levels that don't allow for decent uptake. Not by the nutrients being low on either calcium or magnesium.

I know I run the risk here of opening up a whole can of worms on proper cannabis hydro ph, but here goes anyway.

Most of the ph charts you see are incorrect or misleading. Most would have you believe that if you don't run at a specific ph you are running the risk of lockout of one element or the other. Some depict uptake of elements at different ph points that don't even overlap with their recommendation for ideal ph, usually at around 5.8.

The truth is that there is no such thing as ideal ph and there are no finite points where lockouts occur. Every application is a compromise. However, the 5.8 recommendation is right in the middle of the range where you get the least calcium and magnesium uptake. You are still getting some, but usually not enough. You either have to get above 6.0-6.1 or below 5.5 to get adequate uptake of calcium or magnesium. I believe that above 5.5 phosphorus availability starts diminishing so I start my input solution at 5.2. As nutrients are used and evaporation/transpiration occur the ph will climb. The girls love it and show no symptoms of deficiency.

So, if you are using ro or distilled water and your nutrient shows calcium and magnesium on the label try running your ph between 5.1 and 5.4 for a while and see what happens. I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

If you are using ro water it is probable that you have very hard water from your tap and you decided to use ro water to solve the problem. If your tap water is over 200 ppm at the .5 conversion (milwaukee meters), you probably have too much calcium in your water. The calcium in your tap water plus the calcium in your nutrient solution can add up to an over abundance of calcium. An excess of calcium can cause a magnesium deficiency. You see the mag deficiency first and you think you need more magnesium so you add cal-mag thereby aggravating the situation. You can run into a similar scenario adding epsom salts (magnesium sulphate) to your solution. Too much of one nutrient can cause problems with uptake of another.

If your tap water is below around 150 ppm and doesn't contain more than 70 ppm calcium (only a water analysis can tell you this) try correcting ph to 5.2 for a while. With Ro water, if your nutes show Mg and Ca on the label, try 5.2 for a while.
Or you can blend ro water and tap water in proportions that get your tds below 100 ppm, then try 5.2 for a while.

My tap water is slightly over 200 ppm most of the time, so I blend tap 40%/ro 60% and end up with a reading of around 80 ppm before nutes are added. I chose this ratio because of the ph buffering capability inherent in the tap water mixed with ro at this ratio allows me to get away without using ph adjusters, either up or down. 2 gals tap plus 3 gals ro plus 2 level tablespoons maxibloom gives me 5.2 at around 950 ppm every time. I have visually perfect plants showing no signs excess or deficiency.
Going through this right now glad I came up on this but I found out that there's some rain barrels next door that are accessible to me and using it now instead of the tap water which was really causing me those exact same issues thinks and this seems to be my answer but I might have to mix them later like you for the buffer make sense.

I honestly forgot about this write up and reading (it again) turned a light bulb (in my head) on a possible "fix" for the current Gelato I'm running. Seems to be held back and I've just been letting it ride hardly changing anything. What harm would it be to fill the Earthbox with straight RO water? 🤔 (Could very well just be the phenotype or luck of the draw with this plant) Hate to see it but all part of growing. NExt!

But to add some more with the Hard tap water use, I've been getting by just using pure citric acid to chelate the calcium. 1/8 teaspoon to 5 gallon water does the trick. You'll want to make sure the water has gassed off the chlorine before doing so. But that won't help if the calcium ratios are higher than the magnesium as the article suggests, but with my tap water, so far so good.

Sheez.. The story behind Serious Seeds vs Nirvana AK-47 is an interesting one. (copy and pasted from Overgrow)

There was a time period of a year or two when the AK47 from Nirvana was the better AK47 between the two options (i.e. the “original” from serious was inferior).
That was when Simon was sueing Nirvana for selling his “intelectual” or whatever property in the AK-47. At the same time, Simon also lost one or both original parents in a raid by Dutch authorities. He tried to replace one or both parent plants with cultivars from other strains like The Chronic (likely) and during that time period in particular, the Nirvana Version was just all around better/truer to the original etc.

They eventually settled out of court. Among other things Nirvana had to relabel their version to Ak48.
There are conflicting infos after but I believe the likeliest scenario is that Nirvana sold off the rest of their current stock by just relabeling it (i.e. that batch of AK48 was still the closest version to original AK47) but afterwards, I would guess they changed the lineage (probably also swapped one parrent?) in order to avoid further conflict with Simon, Sensi and others down the road.
Simon didn’t just argue for the name in court but also for the genetics being his and them just copying it and selling it as their own etc. unfair competition blabla.

Either way, you haven’t been able to get “the” AK47 that people keep referring to from either place for like decades now.

My 2022 version of Serious Seeds AK-47 is popping along... 😝

I bought some of Nirvana's in the early 2010's. I wonder which kind it was? It may have been the 48. I cant remember it was so long ago.

Gelato Okie WC are READY. Gonna let the pots dry back for a few days before chopping. Wow, what a banger these turned out to be! Wishing I could find Variety719, these were fun to grow out.

Elev8 Gelato 33 ... I might get something out of it. Throwing caution to the wind and supplemented with some liquid Kelp for that potassium boost. Leaves feeling like paper, thinking that's the first tell tale sign. Little too late but hey .. still have two to three weeks to go with this one. See if the Kelp helps.
