I've gone a month with nothing in them, but I've kept them in my basement. You want a little water, but not so much. I had some I used outside that I dumped in my garden, but wouldn't bring them inside because I didn't control every bug that may have been in there.@7munkee Didn't want to hijack your thread with this discussion, but concerning the earthboxes, have you ever had the need to store them when not using? I almost had it right, or thought I did storing them in the backyard but seems like some steps are needed to be in place before doing so. If I had drained them, removed the hay from the top, and wrapped them in burlap bags. I'd be OK till the Fall, the fungal and bacteria would mostly be intact by November until I needed them again. So now I need to do some exercising, dam ants made themselves at home. I'm told to wrap the Earthboxes in black plastic bags to kill off the ants with heat. That temps reaching into the 130 would be enough to kill them all (eggs included) without effecting the microbes and fungal network. To leave them for about 3 or 4 days. then after that to drain the earthboxes and wrap them in breathable burlap bags (to keep critters out) and store them out of direct sun until November.
No plant with aphids? Did you use molasses in the soil by any chance?@7munkee Didn't want to hijack your thread with this discussion, but concerning the earthboxes, have you ever had the need to store them when not using? The Earthboxes are from the garage grow. I took them to the backyard and planted flowers in them but the 100 plus temps did them in. Just to keep the soil biology alive was my thinking. And to attract beneficial insects was the other ideal when I had an auto going next to them. But this heat is brutal this year. So they've been sitting with nothing for about 3 weeks. And the ants love them! So we're gonna nuke them with the ideal I got online. And once the ANTS are nuked we will store them in burlap bags so they can still breath and keep the critters out. The biology will be intact until I need them in November. No plant with aphids? Did you use molasses in the soil by any chance?
I nearly dumped this soil today... :D fuk..why am I even bothering trying to keep it "alive". Plan B... gonna sanitize it, dry it out real good and store it for later as a super soil mix ..The Earthboxes are from the garage grow. The ants are bad I would have dumped it outside because of that. I have taken my bas soil that I reused several times that seemed like it wasnāt working anymore more and stuck it outside for outdoor, specifically marigolds and it works well. The marigolds grow, they die when it gets hot then in fall and spring the seeds from the dead grow again. No treatment of keeping it alive other than tossing some egg shells into the soil over the summer.I nearly dumped this soil today... :D fuk..why am I even bothering trying to keep it "alive". Edit: took @7munkee advice and just dumped it backyard.Took care of that noise.
