We drove up to Red Rocks today (so I could eat a bunch of fungi, and watch Ship Rock 'melt' a bit.
I/we met this young man from Boulder named 'Chance', and FOR REAL, he's no slouch as a guitar player-type person.

This was written to commemorate the grounding (world wide) of all commercial aircraft after 9/11/2001

Cover of Joe Satriani's 'Flying In A Blue Dream'

This is a pretty excellent cover of Eric Johnson's 'Soulful Terrain'

He's SMP3000 on You Tube, if anyone wants to take the time to give this dude a thumbs up on You Tube.

@dpoison 2 No worries, and you're right, on a couple of the pieces technical demonstration seemed to over take 'not fearing whole notes'
(As a bass player, the notes you DON'T PLAY, are just as important as those you DO PLAY)

All in all, I got a good vibe from this dude, as we shared a doob.
I'd actually consider making some noises with him, with nothing more than a riff, and seeing where it goes.
(Like I said, take a minute to look up SMP3000 and listen to a few cuts/vids, I found some of his playing to be spot on.)
Joe Satriani* & 'The Edge'* from U2 (David Evans) in particular.

(*Note those two are/were FRIENDS OF MINE at one time or another, and I'm POSITIVE 'Satch' would approve of 'Flying In A Blue Dream!)

Also, when you refer to right hand position, are you referring to picking or fretting?

Are you in the Denver area? if so, let's make some noise!

Was sitting with Joe in his living room, smoking a fattie and he put this song on for my opinion before this CD was released.
Immediate goose bumps..
Getting them again listening now.
It was so cool. Joe stood up and started feeling the music the way he expresses himself when he sings. He cannot help himself it's the real deal, it's called true passion folks.
Oh how I miss this man, not because he is a legendary rock star, that's way cool, but he was also so kind, humble, The true definition of a gentleman, really kind of shy.
We always parted company with a big hug and exchanged Love ya Mans....
Hope Your Feeling alright Joe, Meet you in the next world for a big Hug and a love Ya man...

@chickenman:
Isn't that the truth though?
(Both the fact that most rock 'stars' I know are absolutely humble (Joe Satriani as an example) and the fact that TRUE artists 'tune the real world out' as they express themselves?)
That cut is SO COOL, I love the signature sound of Carlos's P.R.S, AND the fact Joe sang it. Goosebumps also!

@indicabush:
Whilst I LOVE C.S.N. I'm most definitely a & Y kinda guy myself.

I performed 3-4 Neil songs at my OWN high school graduation.
Needle & The Damage Done, Old Man, and... (FUCK, I've forgotten) but it was either Powderfinger, or Don't Let It Bring You Down.
It was Don't Let It... now that I think about it.

@dpoison 2:
You DO realize that 'Primus SUCKS' right?
(Do they say that in Bulgaria at Primus shows?)
(They do here in America, the entire crowd chants that shit LOUD!)

(I've seen Primus, maybe one dozen times. and @chickenman, Les Claypool is ALSO an awesome human type being!)

Hey Andrew Lacoste, I say welcome to Hell
Playing killer games in your solitary cell
Mr. Coward, what went wrong with your head
A murderer of children, and still you aren't dead

On July 21st, I saw Gurnemanz mourn
In the ruins of '45, his uniform torn
Parsifal in Bayreuth, a Knight of the Grail
The Dictatorship defeated, a quest doomed to fail

A wedding in Norway, the conductor's hand beckoned
I flew out on July 22nd
Landed in Oslo at 15:22
Three minutes later the Terror became true

Saw Government buildings going in smoke
I thought it was a video, it had to be a joke
Stayed in the airport, safe and at distance
Hardly a position that offers resistance

Dramatize the Untergang, don't we, my artist friends
That sweet sensation of an Angst that never ends
But all a sudden, the threat became real
Expanding ammunition made wounds that wouldn't heal

Hey Andrew Lacoste, I say welcome to Hell
Playing killer games in your solitary cell
Mr. Coward, what went wrong with your head
A murderer of children, and still you aren't dead

I thought it was a film, it couldn't be right
Terror took the form of a lunatic Knight
Disguised as a policeman he killed 77
That was Oklahoma, our September 11th

On the day two months after I lost my loved mother
Everything changed from one day to another
All of a sudden, my grief was ours
The young kept on dying, in spite of the powers

That tried to help them, but the evil was strong
And "you did this", O Heinous, the irreparable wrong
In the Nation of Tolerance, the end of a Pact :
People thought it was Islamist, Muslims were attacked
Hey Andrew Lacoste, I say welcome to Hell
Playing killer games in your solitary cell
Mr. Coward, what went wrong with your head
A murderer of children, and still you aren't dead

The Kingdom wept and protested with roses
I kept my uniform on and continued my poses
They gathered at Young's and sang children's songs
I kept listening to Burzum, unrepenting my wrong

To mother and daughter, to father and son :
I think Grief made us mad, each and every one
I had wept for four months and only felt rage
Gone were the days of the lyricist sage

I saw analysts grapple with Freedom of Expression
Using he massacre as a reason for Repression
I spoke out against them, here Justice ends
Not the kind of message that wins you new friends

2010, before everything went black
2010, now it's time to look back

TOTENINSEL

Skyene på himmelen
vatnet i sjøen
doggen på båtane

kjem frå andedragi
åt dei som søv
under sypressane
