Here is an interesting article I found.

I personally have decide that BHO, Live Resin or whatever you call it is detrimental to my lungs. Then I found this.

http://skunkpharmresearch.com/bho-mystery-oil/

This is a lab test of residuals left after blasting just canned butane.

Yeah, I'm totally with you on the canned butane thing. Not down to smoke "mystery oil" which is pretty much just unidentified propellants added to canned tane. A lot of the higher end extract companies are making their own lab grade blends for their closed loops so that they actually know what they're blasting with and can ensure they're using solvents that can be properly purged without mystery residuals.

Hi guys, im a newbie here, so i need some help.

I was looking on some videos on youtube on the best way to do the concentrates, and i was wondering what is the best butane fuel i should use?

I appreciate any help :)

Thanks
Maria

I suggest using a reagent grade of n-Butane for starters, and a minimum of 99.5% Instrument grade or 99.9% Research grade and re distilling it to further reduce the molecules longer than C-4.

I also strongly suggest reading the following first:
http://skunkpharmresearch.com/butane-safety/
and http://skunkpharmresearch.com/booming-bhotards-the-explosion-of-explosions/

as well as considering using a closed loop system.

Anyone out there have any helpful direction as to how CO2 can be used instead of butane to make concentrate? Seems like a lot of people are doing this in doors. I see at least one a month on the news with either an explosion or fire. Seems like CO2 would be a lot safer if it can be done!

http://skunkpharmresearch.com/removing-butane-mystery-oil-using-a-terpenator/ tells how to do it using a Terpenator, but you can substitute any cold trap rated for the application.

It is usually the cost of equipment that keeps most folks from doing SCFE CO2 extraction. As small system equipped to extract and fractionate is typically over $100K.

Geez Louise! Why is it so high!? Why haven't you invented the $50k model yet you'd be makin boat loads!

Mmmmmm, for starters, I'm trying to wind down in retirement, not up, but we and others actually did design and build systems less than $50K.

Unfortunately passive systems extract along the full temperature/pressure curve, as opposed to at specific temperatures and pressures, and don't have the solvent volume to do efficient extraction, or the control to do precise extractions.

That leads to pumps and plumbing, in addition to thick walled ASME pressure vessels and closures required by either, as well as additional ASME pressure vessels for fractionating to get quality separations.

Pumping cryogenic liquids isn't a casual endevour, because of how worthless elastomer seals are at those temperatures, and can be highly destructive if the liquids warm enough to convert to a gas in the pump. Pumps capable of reliably doing so at those pressures, are handsomely priced, albeit purdy to gaze upon.

Then there is paying the folks smart enough to design one, and the craftsmen required to build a good one, as well as Uncle Sam and the insurance carriers....................

If you sellum, you gotta service them, sooo leave us not forget about highly trained and handsomely paid service men.

Of course someone has to sell them too, and deal with customer service.

Then there is all the extra QC and QA folks.

Building and facilities costs....

Not to forget profit that most businesses are hoping to make. Boatloads of extra normal profits are an open invitation to competition, and the limited number of players jumping in, suggests more normal profits are more likely the case with SCFE CO2 equipment.

Mmmmmmmmmm, a few other reasons they cost a lot and I'm not in the business, but you get the idea.......

Hahaha damn Brother I feel like I just got a business and engineering degree reading that that's some great information! I didn't ever really think of it like that. How old are you if you don't mind me asking? And seriously well stated everything you said, and complete sense about exceeding profit brings competition... Ahh competition haha why can't we just all get along haha! But I also loved the Winding down instead of Up... Haha I'm winding Up now... Just one step at a time and seeing what THE LORD wants me to do while just Loving HIM and Others!!! So we shall see what I "wind up at" ahhh see hear it get it?! That was a pun haha

@Graywolf im going to get a purge Chamber here soon. Should I just strain Straight onto silicon mat in Pyrex, or scrape into pile on silicon After straining into Pyrex by itself? How long should I purge it if it's just a chamber on a fondue plate?

Are you coming straight from the extractor or has it been winterized with alcohol?
