Kief is by far the easiest method of isolating highly concentrated trichomes. Kief definitely is much stronger than the bud from which it came in the sense it is ALL trichome - no leaf - nothing but resin glands... My research in trying to decide which way to indicated kief can be 40-60% t, in some strong strains. Kief is equally strong as most hash since it is the basic ingredient in hash.

Kief is the simplest concentrate to make, imho. It is obtained by shaking frozen crushed buds so the trichomes sprinkle down like pepper... It's the fine powder left in the corner of a bag or bottle of great bud. The process to make it is so simple, if you can shake a pepper shaker you can make kief. It simply falls off the frozen, crushed trim or bud when you shake it through a screen.

KEY TO KNOW.... Passing this along since it surprised me recently.... One point for kief is there may be a legal distinction between it and per se "hash" in some states, including CA. Hash is often considered a much more serious "crime" than pot, carrying "stupid-er" penalties. Chemical extraction to make hash - such as using butane/alcohol, etc - carries a 3-7 year felony term, even in CA where mmj is legal soooo DO understand there is a legal distinction between bud and hash. (see state laws at norml.org/legal) A more extreme penalty for hash is absurd, of course, but it's the law in CA, so you know. Way I see it, it's always good to know the real deal.

These lame laws might be a good reason NOT to press kief into hash since a great argument can be made for kief NOT being a "processed" form of hash. It basically just falls off bud... Love it in powdered form anyway...

Kief is such a fine powder if often fills the air as you shake it into a container - so you're definitely breathing it. Whatever you breath in hasn't been combusted so you don't get high but, last time, was I ever spaced-out the next day after making a batch over 4-5 hours.

Wondering if anyone else has experienced spaciness the next day after making kief? (purely from the process, that is - not from smoking it...)

Actually old school hash had plenty of contaminates in it, like Morroco or Lebenise. and still does. they beat the weed over screen wrapped over bowls. while sitting in a chamber up in the mountains.
There would be all kinds of dust pollen plant debree getting in the hash. And that's part of its makeup...has been for years and years. They even let the buds dry laying out in the sun, gets a brownish color.
Then they beat their wed, collect the kief, then press it into what ever shape they want, slabs, finger rolls balls... miss the Blonde Lebenise

There is a lot of plant material in that.. Buy My wife doesn't smoke.
.So, we infuse that kief into coconut oil. Warm it and strain it.
Then we cap it up into pills for her to take. :)

I also use dry ice, what micron size do you prefer Ken? Also do you press or further process dry ice kief?

lolI dont understand all the confusion here

kief is just hash before its pressed

hash is a generic term for pressed extract - water wash - finger hash - bubble hash -

I can take a teaspon of kief out of my bowl and press it into hash using only my fingers in just seconds

I prefer to leave it as kief

Yup. Hash is pressed kief....and Kief is unpressed hash :D

The older guys know that most of the hash we got in the 70's/80's/etc. was pressed hash (Lebanese Blond, Moroccan Red) The exceptions were some of the black hash that, I believe, was different because it was pressed/heated rather than just pressed...but that's prolly another thread/discussion/disagreement altogether. LOL.

dank...a fun way to get schooled is to find a copy of Robert C. Clarke's book, "Hashish". This book details hash production and history all around the world. Just the pics alone will make you drool...

I've always collected trichomes from baggies, plates, pyrex dishes and bowls, lard cans, and what falls under the screens; found icewater/bubblebags 3 years ago.

I've also always used whole plant alcohol extractions (heck, I had two Iso2 "Isomerizer Machines" in 1980).

Your kief/coconut infusion sounds better--
and easier...
