Hey farmers,
I’m new to led, I’m an hid grower transitioning to led and want to know what led light I should get for 4 plants about 5-6 weeks veg time. They will be in my walk in closet, it’s about 6x5x9 but will be putting the plants to one side of the closet with no barrier. My wife says my budget is 200 but Santa Clause says it’s 275. Is it better to get one big one or two smaller ones. I’m looking at mars hydro and spider farmer brands but don’t know which ones to get. I bought a cheap china blurple 240w light that has a veg and flower switch that worked for my last two grows but it’s almost Christmas and I made my list. I’m gonna put the blurple in my mom tent. Any direction would be much appreciated. Thanks stoners✌🏼

Edit- Im also growing with organic soil

I like the SE3000, I have 2 in a 5x5 with 5 large plants and equipment....they fit perfectly side by side with 2 ft x 5ft up front for equipment, fans, humidifier, ect

I wish I could get that but that’s a bit over my budget.

Hey, hello.

I just bought an SE3000 from spiderfarmer and they are on sale. Add the 8% code and the cost is within your christmas budget +$5. That was today, I don't know how long the sale is. Free shipping too.

Edit: Code is SFTHC

Edit 2: my math is bad. it would be +20. sorry

Awesome thank you for that code! Where did you buy it from? And what’s the difference between the bar style and the board?

Bar style lights in my opinion work better for equal coverage through out the whole space. They also usually don't heat up the grow space like a quantum board. However, with that said ... a 2 x 5 space would do well with either one provided you've thought through ventilation, air flow and humidity control.

Awesome thank you for that. I’m renting this house so I can’t make any holes for venting. I was hoping since the closet is much bigger than the space where the plants are it would balance the heat out. I will be getting a small dehumidifier to control the humidity. I live in NC so I’m hoping I just have to lower it and will have a couple oscillating fans. Would two smaller 100w QB style lights be better than one big one?
Edit- is mars hydro a good brand? I know spider farm is a good brand worth getting but I could get two mars hydro lights for just about the same price as one spider farm.

How much of the 2 x 5 space do you intend to use? The formula I use is 30w minimum per ft sq. If you plan on spanning that whole space, you would need 300w minimum for good lighting. If it were mine, I would actually be looking at boards ranging between 200w and 240w with the intention of using the dimmer. Otherwise, two 150w boards will serve your purpose pretty well as long you're leaving the door open during much of lights on time. Your plants transpire and a dehuey does add some heat. Might not need the dehuey running during the day if the door is open.

Even better would be three 100 watt boards.

Edit: You could buy 2 orders of these and be golden on a low budget. Mount them to pegboard cut at 2' x 4'. Santa might be able to get you something else with that idea. https://www.amazon.com/Monios-L-Ref...mzn1.fos.d977788f-1483-4f76-90a3-786e4cdc8f10

Just 4 plants about 5 weeks of veg. So not extremely big plants. I was thinking about a 2x4ish area. I was thinking 3 of the smaller lights or 1 of the bigger ones for that area? Or would that not work? I was thinking mars hydro because they’re more in my budget but not if they are gonna break after 1or 2 runs.
Edit- small ones are $80 and big one is $225

I've never been a fan of Mars Hydro. Great marketing, poor warranty support is what I've heard. You would also need 3 of those lights at 100w each.

Yes, you "could" get away buying just one of the SF2000 but you won't adequately light the whole space. Quantum boards intensity is straight down. Yes, they have 120 degree lenses supposedly but in all SMD type LED the bulk of the energy is straight down. Typical quantum board length is about 24" - 26". Two of those using the dimmer would evenly fill your space and do a better job controlling the heat because you don't have to drive them at 100%.

Here is the ppfd map for the SF2000

See how hot it is in the middle? You could grow 2 plants, one on each side but your plants will want you to keep ppfd between 800-1000. You wouldn't want to put a plant in the center where ppfd is 1518. It's too hot. This is why I prefer bar lights. A pair of SE3000 would be ideal, using the dimmer because you don't have those high intensity hot spots. Unfortunately, they don't fit your current budget.

For comparison, here is the ppfd maps (8" and 10") of the SE3000. See how much more usable light you have?

This would probably be your best bang for your dollar price/performance through Spider Farmer.

What’s the difference between these two? A few years ago when I was looking to switch to led they were way to expensive but now I’m so glad they have gone down and can finally ditch the old ways and get on board with real led lighting. So much to learn hahaha. But that’s why I’m in here for help. Thank you guys so much

The G-series uses bridgelux diodes. The S series uses the 301b/h Samsung chips. Not much difference really ... you won't notice it at all.

Bridgelux is used in my ROI-E720s. I have 2.

Edit: I modified the useable ppfd map on the picture i posted. This is for the SF2000 and I think you'll instantly see why the bar lights are superior in my eyes.
