what light for checking trikes

what is the best light to use when checking trikes?
to bright and everything looks clear, to dull and everything looks cloudy.

What are you using to look at them? Jeweler's loupe? Microscope?

40x loupe with 2 built in led's also a 40x1000 usb microscope with variable led's.
maybe it's just my tired old eyes but led's make telling the difference between clear/cloudy difficult for me

You're not the only one with tired old eyes. I use a 15x loupe under the grow light. The cheap microscope I bought from Amazon didn't last long, but took good pictures.

I actually don't look at the trichomes much. Instead, I look for indications of senescence, like fading of the leaves and browning of the pistils. It's somewhat intuitive.
