I have a 4 1/2 x 4 1/2 ft closet. I was wondering if a 4 x 4 ft tent would work in there. I wouldn't be able to access the tent from all sides, so that's what I'm worried about.

The first thing to think about when setting up grow spaces is how much yield you want, how often. As a general guideline, assume you'll yield one ounce of dried flower per square foot of grow space, every 3-4 months. That will vary with grower skill, genetics, grow system, and probably other things I'm forgetting, but 1 oz/ft²/grow is probably a good starting point. So, for example, a 2x4 might give you three or four harvests a year, yielding about a half pound dry each harvest. That assumes healthy plants and good plant training.

As someone who runs a 4x4 that can open on only one side, I'll say that it's a pain in the ass sometimes. If you can grow what you need with a smaller tent in that space, I would.

I would do a 2x4. A 4x4 you want to be able to access all sides. With a solid grow you can get a pound out of this tent.

I can say not being able to access a 4x4 on 3 of the 4 sides makes it really difficult. I’d get a 3x3

I’ve tried you can’t keep the heat down enough. Not unless you live in freezing cold area. The led technology has came a long ways.
