When to plant outside in michigan?

I live in Michigan where it's starting to warm up but we will still have cold fronts every now and then,it's highs of 68 right now but next week there lows of 28,what month should I plant late April or mid may?

In the SE, it's mid to late May. I'll have some peppers and tomatoes starting in one of my tents for a few weeks.

Might consider a greenhouse, or at least a pvc hoop house. I am pretty close to the northern border myself and outdoor in these climates can be stressful. Just something to think about!
